On my journeys I have searched for many kinds of old vehicles but this one caught me completely by surprise. Steam trams are extremely rare and in Bern they operate this one about once in a month.
The locomotive G 3/3 Nr 12 was built by Schweizerische Locomotiv & Maschinen-Fabrik in 1894. Survival of the locomotive needed quite a bit of luck because tram lines of Bern were electrified already in 1902. This loco worked in a sawmill until 1943. It has since been in storage and on museum display. Since 2002 it has been running on the streets of Bern again, 100 years after the original retirement. Tram trailer is a later built replica.
(Title Hot in the City, a song of Billy Idol from the album Billy Idol, 1982. I know, my titles almost never have anything to do with song lyrics)

this is such a good subject for your mono treatment, the slight toning gives it a timeless look even if the lady photographer gives the game away!
A very unusual and most appealing street scene.
Best regards Les.

Nice b&w capture from Berne. I'd seen similar vehicles there but the first time a combi of tram and steam lock !
TFS and best regards

I am not normally a fan of B&W photos but this is appropriate for the scene. The angle of the shot is great giving the shot a nice sense of direction. The B&W fits the mood of the scene perfectly.

Only the tourist at left indicates that it is not an old photo. Well done.

wonderful picture from the railway country. Very good choice for b+w mode to present this old steam locomotive. I like your shot here very much.TFS.

well, this certainly isn't the high speed train that we've seen in your previous posts!
at first I thought this was a photo of a picture in a frame or something! it just has that feel to it.
has an old newspaper feel.
the lady in the jacket on the left gave it away.
cool subject for TE
thanks for this one

The sepia toning is of course entirely appropriate for the subject; indeed if it weren't for the other photographer, there'd be little to indicate that it was a modern photograph. Wonderful old tram: wish I'd seen it when I was in Bern, as, to be honest, I found the city deadly dull. But it was a Sunday in Switzerland...

Such a lovely old tram deserves a black and white approach.
Only the clothing of the tourists inside the vehicle give away the date of the picture.

Quite rare picture well seen and perfectly executed. Perspective angle of shot gives a nice view of this old-timer tram with people dressed accordingly to the time they represent. B+W type of photo nicely match the idea and spirit of the picture.
