Glaibasel aa mim Rhy Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a stitch of 16 images taken from the Basel cathedral and showing a view of Glaibasel (Kleinbasel, name of the part of Basel situated in the inner curve of the Rhine).

To the left you can see the industrial area dominated by the Novartis Company Headquarters and the St Johann Harbour installations. Then all the center area right of the bridges is used by housing and commercial streets, the houses next to the Rhine go for sky high prices. The big red tower in the middle is a housing tower, while the dark one more to the right is where the exhibition grounds are located, this is the most recent addition to the Basel skyline and it hosts offices and a hotel. A few chimneys here and there remind that Basel together with its area is an important swiss industrial center.

Im always amazed to see how some of you can stitch so may images together and still make it look perfect.
I have some really good pictures from a trip to the Azores, covering a whole town and harbor, taken from a nearby mountain, but when I try to stitch them, there is small differences in the sky color, I used same exposure on all, but still. Do you know of a way to come around such a problem, I have kept the pictures, hoping one day to be able to fix it:)
This one of yours is just perfect, love all the details coming out in the large version.

Bonjour Jean-Yves,

C'est en effet un splendide panorama!
J'admire les photographes qui savent si bien rassembler plusieurs images pour n'en faire qu'une seule sans que l'on s'aperçoive ou commencent et finissent les images...
La seule chose qui m'étonne c'est que personne ne vous ait suggéré d'inclure un titre plus petit. Il n'est pas du tout dans "l'échelle" de l'image et prend une place bien trop importante, dommage...

Une belle performance au niveau de l'assemblage ! Un bémol pour le titre qui est juste énorme mais qui se laisse oublier dans la version large. La vue est excellente depuis ton point de vue. Surtout sur les maisons sur la rive qui ont un charme certain.

Il a fallu que tu ruses pour faire passer cette étonnante version large (tu utilises quel logiciel pour l'assemblage, autopano? J'ai vu que tu travaillais en tif, c'est vraiment mieux?)
Je ne sais pas si c'est le meilleur POV sur la ville mais le résultat est impressionnant...et je n'ose même pas imaginer le tout à taille réelle. T'as chopé un ordi à la NASA pour stocker tout ça!

WOW! 16 photos stitch together...and I can't find any sign of it:) Really good work!

And about the place...really nice panorama, shown from good POV. Maybe I would change a little bit proportion between this big letters and the photo but...it is only my personal feeling;)

On remarque par sa grandeur que Bâle n’est pas un trou ... perdu dans les confins de la Helvétie (fallait que je la place celle là) :))
Image bien assemblée, le titre sur la VL crève les yeux.
Cependant je me permets de réagir, je pense que tu aurais dû ajouter un étage inférieur à l’image qu’on appelle rez de chaussée, ceci pour donner une certaine profondeur à l’avant-plan ; tu ne vas pas reculer pour 34 images j’espère ?

Très joli panoramique avec une version large pleine de détails: attention tu as une ligne de drapeaux qui se coupe dans l'eau au premier plan.
Le point de vue est bien choisi.
Par contre je ne suis pas très fan de l'inscription pour Bale un peu trop voyante.

JY,
you certainly waited for the perfect weather to get this view in a perfect manner. I have the feeling to stand at the back of the Muenster and looking over Kleinbasel. I can understand why the title got so much larger compared to the image itself and yet it is to dominant. Luckily enough you gave us also the option of the large version were I can blend out the title and focus on the details of the cityscape. It would be an interesting thing to do the same work throughout the different seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter) and present it all together.
