Photographer’s Note
Not only to mark Swiss national day but also the anniversary of the day I arrived in this country, I’m posting an image of the city where I live – Basel. Five years ago I arrived in this city, a place which has become very much my home and where I’m very happy to be!
In summer the city comes alive, and the place to be is on the banks of the Rhein, or even better swimming in the Rhein… Taken from Mittlere Brücke, this is a very typical view which anyone familiar with the place will recognise, but for the orange crowds on the river bank – can you guess what was happening on this evening?
On the right is the Münster, unfortunately always under scaffolding.

Salut Susanna,
Une vue classique de Bâle et un bon choix pour la Fête Nationale et tes cinq ans de présence dans cette ville. Au début je pensais qu'il s'agissait d'un rassemblement patriotique, mais en regardant la date de prise de vue et en lisant ton texte qui parle de foule orange, j'ai compris qu'il s'agissait probablement d'une photo prise le soir où les hollandais se sont fait éliminés de l'Euro par les Russes.

Very nice shot. I lke the colors and the light. For the orange crowds,I thought it was flowers. But I wrong.

Une vue assez classique mais la lumière est très belle. Il est dommage que la cathédrale soit sous les échaffaudages mais tu as trouvé néanmoins un très bon point de vue !

Well I guess that the orange clad people are Dutch football fans. Did Holland play in Basel that night? The view down the river in the evening light is lovely. It looks far more serene that it probably was with all the football fans. The large version shows up some impressive detail.
