Good Morning Everyone,,
I have never, previously seen a more colourful or inventive ferry boat.
This particular ferry crossed the fast flowing Rhine at Basel. It had no means of propulsion other than the movement of the water, being attached to a strong wire which spanned the river. The ferryboat operator cleverly manoeuvred the boat with a rudder.
It was made colourful by masses of wool that had been wound into patterns. (There is a craze for this type of decoration in England, it is called 'yarnival'.)
The ferry was very busy as being a quick, exciting and very unusual way to cross this wide river.
Have a great day, Bev :-)

both you and Rosemary have posted wonderfully original and colourful shots today. Whilst this is in stark contrast to Rosemary's this is just as effective and creatively beautiful. Enticing and wonderfully detailed who could resist a ride on this ferry boat. Composed and presented superbly.

Like you, I am struck by the coloured decoration on both the ferry and gangway Bev, the pot plants remind me of the narrow-boats on the English canals! My grandsons would love to take a trip on this boat. A fascinating and very unusual image, I don't think I have ever seen anything like it and it's a great TE contribution. Warm regards Rosemary

The little ferry looks like it has been run by hippies for a long time. It really seems quite unusual for this part of the world. The green water makes a fine backdrop to the many red, blue and pink details. The more I look at the picture the more diagonal lines I discover. There are lots of them and I am sure they help to create a dynamic atmosphere of the composition.

First Beverly let me say, when you pass a place but the weather not good for a perfect photography - never give up shooting, you might be surprise how the pic. comes out of it. Happend to me in several places while under rain, last on Germany: See the pic.s from Rothenburg and Cochem, and more to be posted.
Fine colors mingle and decorated a simple river scenery. Well done on light and sharpness.

indubbiamente originale e colorato.

Brava.
Ciao e buona serata

Indeed, not only the ferry itself is very colourful, also the path leading to it is nicely made with wool. Crazy idea!
have a nice day

For indeed this ferry is surprising and unusual, but this picture has been fantastic, very charming and colorful, a stunning image of a part of everyday life in the Swiss city.
A splendid colorful which gives much life to the image.
Magnificent both luminosity and sharpness.
Have a good weekend.
P / D. What happened in those days that you were in Basel, I was from Alsace at a distance of less than 50 km.

The colourful ferry certainly makes a fine TE shot. The colour on the wooden rails draws the eye towards the ferry and helps the eye concentrate on the important elements. Super clarity.
Best wishes, Ann

I cannot resist boats! Each time I see boats and harbours, my heart jumps a little bit higher and this impression is a very beautiful one. The photographer’s perspective is excellent. The colors make the image very attractive. My compliments also for the interesting composition!

I see, you captured one of our beloved ferries (there are actually 4 of them crossing the Rhine) at its best here. The yarnival as you call it was organized by a private initiative and every citizen in the city was invited to participate. Thus all 4 ferries got decorated in a different theme, this one being the most colorful of all. Last years yarnival where the bridges.
In summer time the ferries provide an easy and fun way to cross the river and are held in high esteem by the people of Basel. The ferrymen are kind of local VIP's. The run, weather providing, as long as there is light in the sky and in the evenings can be hired for a private function.
Glad you liked Basel, sorry though for the bad weather in Interlaken, the mountain view from there is otherwise spectacular.
have a great time
