Photographer’s Note
Butterfly 9
Occasionally I have to be reminded to stop trying to photograph things, and concentrate on making pleasing or, at least, interesting images, whatever the circumstances. This is probably good advice, and it may well be how it was that I lost my frustration with static dresses exhibited in glass boxes, and embraced these low light reflective spaces and their contents.
Part of an extraordinary - extraordinarily good - exhibition of haute couture dresses and medieval armour - no, really - at the Tinguely Museum in Basel.

Hello Colin! I live so long, actually forever in this country but I have never seen it this way. Love the dark mood in this one with the strong colors of the dress, cannot really imagine to wear it, imagine ... LOL ... but I love to see these things (my CA friend said to me the other day "are you always wearing black" ... YES often). The glass box gives lovely reflections that I find really attractive. Great frame too, the same yellow as in the picture. Excellent presentation ... This is good. Have a wonderful realxing evening, dark blue skies here, summer is back ... YES. Barbara.-

Hi Colin
That's a really unusual subject, for sure. But not less interesting !
The thumbnail is very attractive. The vivid colors but also your tight framing draw the attention at the first sight. There is a symmetrical effect perfectly thought and an effect "square in a square, in square" quiet funny too.
The fine sharpness reveals the beauty of this medieval dress and its drape. Not easy to wear indeed but very elegant.
Compliments for the originality of this shot, and the smart presentation.

Hello Colin -
A bit of departure for you and you have made a compelling image. I am not sure whether it is the design of the display or just light reflections but the image has great depth with repeating elements. Butterfly is a great title as the dress does look like a colorful butterfly. Well seen and presented.
Thank you for sharing.

HI Colin,
I like here how it is a sci-fi / medieval kind of mix. Of course the colors really stand out against the BG. Besides, the symmetry of it all fits the subject IMHO. Thumbs up!

Hello Colin,
Very nice title going very well with this photo (you noticed it was the post n°1111111?).
Reading your note, I share your frustration to do photos of things through windows. It is really difficult to manage. A good way is to use polarizer, but then you lose 2 diaph making the shutter speed an issue.
Whatever, good light management and a nice perspective effect providing deepness.
Yves.

Collin,
With the spot light on the subject, and low light everywhere else, really enhances the colors of you main subject. the great thing about window displays, they are already beautifully presented, not to say that a photogrpaher doesn't have to do any work, but it is easier and we have more time to composed the images in whatever way we find attractive, and to capture well technically. You did great here, and I like the different layer of elements throu the reflections. Abusolutely beuatiful butterfly.
