Photographer’s Note

This year I have left the Basel area and I begin to feel nostalgic as this nice city will enter its three days of total fun, now that everybody worldwide is done with Carnival and trying to recover from headache and various hangovers, in Basel all the fun is about to start, next monday a 4:00 AM with the famous Morgestraich. This is the start of three full days of carnival fun, for which the city prepares all year long.
To invite you to join the fun here is a character of the Corteges, one of the famous Waggis, here in full action surrounded by the flying räppli, note that this one is very fashion conscious and designed his nose after the coat of arms of Basel.

Nostalgie, nostalgie...
Une très belle manière de d'annoncer le début imminent des festivités. Cela doit être un sacré spectacle durant 3 jours.
Cette image est gaie, éclatante, pleine de vie, et le sourire de ce drôle de personnage est communicatif !
Que la fête commence ;o)

I`m not into karneval,but this is a great shot!!!
Eine tolle Maske und was für ein Rot der Haare.Ich glaube "roter" gehts nicht.Sehr gute Platzierung und toller Kontrast mit dem blauen konfetti.

Je commençais à m'impatienter ....alors il vient ce carnaval de Bâle....enfin, mais non c'est de l'an dernier! Encore une somptueuse photo de ces maintenant célèbres Waggis, très coloré et surtout avec ces confettis capturés en plein vol. Chapeau l'artiste....et vivement lundi!

That's an interesting shot...it's so beautiful. I love the bright colours and the blue confetti (or something else?) flying around. Great work, I love it!

We used to celebrate Carnival in Belgium as well, but in Canada they don't celebrate it much. Thank you for sharing it here on TE!

je me suis en voyant la vignette: là, ils vont fort, et leurs mongolfieres sont de plus en plus étonnante. mais en ouvrant l'image je me suis ris une volée de confétis et une brassée de coleurs. joli moment capturé.

Hello Jean-Yves,

Quand je dis que j'ai besoin de couleur, je vois que malgré ton amour pour l'or blanc, tu as également besoin de voir éclater quelques couleurs tape à l'oeil.
Ici, c'est le cas avec ce personnage très haut en couleur.
Nostalgie que tu peux en partie calmer en plongeant dans les antres de ton disque dur... ;-)

Au carnaval tout le monde est jeune, même les vieillards. Au carnaval tout le monde est beau, même les laids.
Une image où les couleurs explosent avec bonheur.
Les couleurs pétillent joyeusement dans cette composition.

Belle teinte et lumière pour cette prise, au moins avec de tels personnages on ne peut rater le sourire pour la photo ... et au moins cette année tu n'auras pas l'envie irresitible mais sans doute quelque peu pénible de te lever en pleine nuit (froide) pour le défilé nocturne...

No carnivals here in Sweden but we do eat "Fat Tuesday buns". Seems fun though, with all colours and festivities here. Very good photo!

Un Carnaval une semaine retardé qui commence à 04:00 du matin dans un pays qui n'est pas du tout connu par la folie de ses gens... Voilà une face très sympa de Suisse qui je ne connaissais pas! La masque de amusant et colorée suffisait pour rendre une photo trés attirante, mais ces petites choses bleues qui volent en air la rend fabuleuse.
