Photographer's Note
This time it's a shot taken at Bürkliplatz in Zürich.
Unfortunately the weather left much to be desired that day:( The sun had disappeared behind the clouds about half an hour before I shot this photo.
You can see some other photos of this gigantic spider on the Net, so this is only my version - as I saw it :)
-------------------------------------------------
Info:
Author: Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010).
The sculpture if called "Maman" (1999).
"The spider stands 30 feet (or 9.27 m) high, weighs 18,000 pounds (or 8.165 kg) and carries a sac of 20 white marble eggs under her belly."
(You can see the details in the Workshop photo)
Louise Bourgeois was one of the most significant and influential artist personalities of our times.
She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on December 25, 2011.
To mark this occasion, the Fondation Beyeler is mounting an exhibition featuring a concentrated selection from her oeuvre.
An advance highlight is the presentation of her renowned and largest spider sculpture "Maman" (1999) on Bundesplatz in Bern, Bürkliplatz in Zurich, and at a site in Geneva.
Subsequently Maman will be on view during the exhibition in the Fondation Beyeler park in Riehen/Basel." (source: fondationbeyeler.ch)

Hi Elena!
I've already seen those kind of spiders in many places (for real and in images)! They look good in the urban environment (although I'm not too fond of those insects)!
Your picture of it is very attractive and has excellent photo quality!
TFS - congrats,
Cheers,
Neyvan

Hello Elena
We have big spiders in Australia but nothing with these proportions! An interesting composition with one person hoping to get a bizarre image from a different pov. Zurich must be your third home? Cheers, Marlene

Hi Elena!
Wonderful capture on this spider, though the people in there are a bit distracting. Anyway, what's with this sculpture and spiders? I've seen various gigantic spider structure in Tolosa, and recently one in Ottawa, do they have the same author? They really look a like, it discombobulates me.
All the best,
Matt
P.S
Thanks for sharing, at least now I know 3 places which have the same sculpture.

Bom dia dear Elena
My first impression when I saw the miniature, was a scene of the movie The Lord of the Rings.
As always you surprise me with these amazing captures.
Have a nice day, my dear

Elena,
This is a nice shot of this sculpture. The trees frame the sculpture nicely. The people add a sense of scale for the shot. Your light management is great and the photo has excellent sharpness.

Really good composition although it scares me a little, I don't like spiders. I really like the feeling of time, movement and space given by the people in this photo.
All the best Deb

Bonjour Elena,
J'aime beaucoup cette sculpture et son nom. La présence des passants donne l'échelle de la bête.
Une photo très agréable !

Hello Elena,
The spider is an unusual and eye-catching monument for a public place, and you have put it very neatly between the trees with the grey clouds as a background. Even better are the activities taking place around it, one woman studying her tourist brochure, someone taking a photograph, others casting a glance, still more walking towards the spider. You certainly did your best to find the most advantageous poisition for this photo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Dear Elena
It reminds me of the spider from the Lord of the Rings. How terrifying. And what a great composition, you demonstrate superbly to us the scale and details of this interesting photographic subject.
TFS and I wish you a lovely weekend

Hi Elena,
fortuna che ragni di queste dimensioni non esistono, altrimenti... poveri noi! :))
Davvero originale questa scultura e molto ben catturata nella tua foto con un buon taglio verticale e una luce ben gestita.
TFS!

Hi elena. fascinating sculpture and well suited in this urban scene. Nice composition with the leaves top left and woman bottom right plus the spider forming a diagonal and regardless of the weather, there is a "bouncy" mood as people are engaged in peaceful pursuits.Best wishes. Klaudio.
