Photographer’s Note

Zug is a city rarely seen on TE, so today here's a view from its main landmark, the "Zytturm" at the entrance of the tiny old city.

First built in the XIII th century as the main entry point in the city walls it was considerably enhanced in years 1478 to 1480. The clock that gave it its name ("Zytturm" = Time Tower) was added in 1574. You can see the roof decorated in the white & blue colors of the cantonal flag and below the clock the flags of the few cantons that were forming the Swiss Confederation when Zug joined it on 27. june 1352.

Zug is the richest Swiss canton because of its relaxed taxation system that attracted many wealthy persons. Some years ago a banker attracted media attention for having saved 30 Mio. CHF in taxes by just moving the headquarters of his company from Zürich to Zug.
