Photographer’s Note
Valle Onsernone is one of the most difficult to reach valleys in the canton Ticino, southern Switzerland. The first street into Valle Onsernone in the hinterland of Locarno was built not before 1896. Still today visiting Onsernone valley by car for a tourist is a really exciting undertaking and you should be free from giddiness - even in the car. All villages are situated on the northern slope high above the bottom of this gulch-like valley - about 400 meters above Isorno river.
These conditions made that the name of Onsernone valley in former times was a synonym for poverty and remoteness. It was common that men and even children hired out in Italy, Germany and other countries in order to feed their families - a lot of people even emigrated to America.
Some of them made their fortune in the new world and - instead of enjoying their prosperity there - some of them returned to their remote valley and built stately houses there - Palazzi high up in the mountains.
My photo was taken in the tiny village Russo, high up in Onsernone valley in really lowly and agricultural surroundings (please see map view). Coming here the visitor nearly can't believe his eyes when seeing these buildings there - somehow monuments of homesickness.

Bonjour Frank ,

Hello Frank,
Good composition of this alpine village, whose coloured houses make for some interesting and pretty colour contrasts.

Hi Frank,
since I'm not free of giddiness I'll leave it up to you to show us those wonderful places. I'm always happy when arriving at destination after those difficult roads and totally tired. Wonderful landscape with a clear beautiful blue sky.
Cheers,
Edi

hi Frank,
great colors of the sky and of the houses. I have never been in the Onsernone valley. Since Locarno it's only two hours from my home, after having seen your photo and read your notes, I am willing to see that valley in the next future.
Have a good day.

toller POV.

Hi Frank,
Ticinese feeling immediately recognizable on this one. Old stone buildings, curvy roads and steep but densely forested mountain slopes. Well framed street view.

ciao Frank
Nice snaking part of road leading to the houses, the light on them is strong but right and makes them shine, very luminous impression.
Have a nice day JY

Frank,
Your composition is great here using the winding road to lead the eye into the shot. The angle of the shot is nice giving the scene nice depth and direction. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.

Hallo Frank,
The curving road is nicely leading the eye into the photo in your good composition. A good perspective. Such an interesting variety of architecture details in the houses. Good colours, clarity and contrast. An interesting note as well. TFS!
Greetings from chilly and rainy south Finland!
