Photographer’s Note

Yesterday I showed you a view of the Lago di Lugano from the top of Monte Bre in the very south of Switzerland. Here I show you the view of the bay of Lugano from the summit of Monte Bre, about 650 meters above the level of the lake.

Lugano is a town with about 52.000 inhabitants (with several suburbs) and it's the biggest town in the canton Ticino and it's economic centre, but it isn't the capital. The capital of Ticino is Bellinzona with about 17.000 inhabitants. Lugano is Switzerland's 3rd major banking centre (mainly handling Italian-speaking clients), after Zürich and Geneva.
The city has a wonderful park (parco civico) with a rank southern vegetation (you can see it besides the marina in the foreground). Here begins the wonderful promenade which leads along the whole bay to the quarter at the left below Monte San Salvatore with the denotative name "Paradiso".

A bit right of the middle of my picture you can see a small lake and a bit behind it you can see another water surface - but this is another bay of Lago di Lugano. This lake fills several valleys (nearly like the fjords in Norway) and so it's shape is rather complicated and it explicates it's second name "Ceresio" - obviously derived from the celtic word "keresios" = horned. Using the map view function at the left you can zoom out (please click several times at -) to see the incredible shape of the lake.

In the workshop you can see a view a little bit more to the right.
