Photographer’s Note
This is a view of "Lago di Lugano" in southern Switzerland in the canton Ticino. Lugano is situated behind the forest at the right side. You can see some houses there. The bay of Lugano is flanked by two mountains. Here you can see one of them - at the right - Monte San Salvatore (912 m). The lake is 276 m above sea level. This photo was taken from the very top of the other mountain, Monte Bre (923 m). You can reach the summits of these two mountains by cable cars. At the top of San Salvatore you can see a tower, which is determined to get lightning strokes which are explored here. Ticino is one of the most thundery regions of Europe. A thunderstorm here can be an unforgettable experience ... the quantities of rain are nearly unthinkable.
You can see that the end of the lake nearly reaches the southern edge of the Alps, which pass here into the large plains of the biggest Italian river, Po. In the middle of the picture you can look through to this plains.
You also can see a dam across the lake - the "Dam of Melide" (a village situated on it's right end). It carries the motorway, a local street and the very important railway line from St. Gotthard to Milano. It's interesting that this today's dam is the frontal moraine of the glaciers of the ice age, which only had to be prepared for the traffic purposes.
On the left side in front of the dam you can see a small town - Campione d'Italia - which is an Italian exclave in Switzerland. In the year 777 this area was donated to the monastery St. Ambrogio in Milano and so still today it's a part of Italy.
In the workshop you can see another view with the restaurant on top of Monte Bre.
Using the map view function at the left you can zoom in (please click several times at +) exactly to this restaurant with it's sunshades.

Hello Frank,
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! You come back on TE in the very good style. Rested, with shifts and to splendid how I see with the gathering of the photograph whose review begins this superb picture. The view is strange, overwhelming a power of rocky tops and a nearness of sky. Excellent seizure, very good quality.
Best regards from whimsical weatherly Poznan,

Hallo Frank,

Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hi Frank. Welcome back. What a picture, what a vacation place. No wonder you keep going there.
So much to see, so much to read. Excellent both, picture and note. There should be more choices for marking notes usefulness on TE. On the scale 0-10 I could give 10 instead of one click. Thank you so much for your effort to tell us so much about what we see.
Greetings from Canada.

Hallo Frank!

Hallo Frank,
Welcome after your vacations.
Nice landscape the one that you show us in your composition, this lake between the mountains in Switzerland is very beautiful and agreeable, perfect place for a rest and for relaxing the soul and the body.
I like to see the branches of the trees in foreground, creating a frame to the landscape, in an image with a lot of depth and with a magnificent sky.
Regards from a warm (25ºC) and sunny Barcelona.

Fantastic image Frank... and the note is precious.
I like the blue green contrast you captured here..
I wonder why not a greater f/stop to increase sharpness..
