Photographer’s Note
This is the oldest part of "Castello Visconteo" in Locarno, canton Ticino, Switzerland. For further information please read my note of yesterday.
The special pinnacles here are called "swallowtails". When this castle was built it was situated on the lakefront of Lago Maggiore with an own small harbour. Because of the masses of rubble which nearby Maggia river carries from the Alps it's delta has grown in such an amount that the castle today stands about 1 kilometre "upcountry".
Please excuse the white sky because of dull weather, but I thought that this building is worth to show - even with a white sky.
In the workshop you can see another part of the castle.
Using the map view function at the left you can zoom in (please click at "satellite" and several times at +) exactly to this impressive building.

hi frank,
great viewpoint in this photo. never mind the white sky, i think the overall colours are nice, composition is great with the distanced houses on the left side. It look ghostly though.. and I think if you have waited a little longer for the people to be in the picture more, it gives the castle a greater sense of dimension, just my thought.

Bonjour,
Il devait être difficile de prendre d'assaut ce genre de construction !
Bonne journée.

The diagonal line of the path is excellent here and the people give me an idea of the height of the walls. Good picture with nice colours. The castle look awesome from this angle. It provides also space to see the background. Thanks Frank.

Fine didactic photo with smart composition and important note. It is a pity that sky is rather empty.
Regards my dear friend.

Frank,
Great viewpoint of the castle. The overcast sky helps bring out the rich deep colors of the landscape which contrast nicely with the stone castle. The people give us a nice sense of scale here as well as adding a human element to the shot.

Hi Frank.
Don't worry about the sky. This is a picture of a castle! Impressive, Workshop and note very informative. You can almost feel there are fighting men up on the battlements. For anybody not welcomed there the castle must have had a powerful intimidating effect.
Have a good weekend, hope you feel better.
Greetings from Canada, long weekend before us.

Hello Frank,
The lack of the sky not at all hinders in the good reception of this photo. After all you do not tell here about flowers, but about enough distant and fascinating history. Pleases to me the manner of framing which here you accepted. Massive building from right and the country town deep inside if snug with baileys. Excellent photograph, nice and interested description.
Best regards from autumnal Poznañ,

OK, so you didn't have good weather, but this did not prevent you from getting a nice sharp shot thanks to your use of the tripiod. The tower on the left is neatly placed on a third and it's good to see the village to the left too.
Das Wetter ist leider nicht sehr schön im Moment hier in Suffolk, aber sie sagen, dass die Sonne dieses Wochenende scheinen wird. Ich hoffe es!
Schönes Wochenende Frank!
Bis bald

Hi Frank,
Yes what a pitty this white sky, but the castle is magnificent. The people on the left give us a good scale idea.

Hello Frank.
Great composition here, with the angle of the castle and the view of the town beyond. I like the sight of the figures coming down the footpath, but a little pity they are partially obscured by the tree. The detail on the castle is really good, and I like the carpet of lawn with those tiny flowers. A very good exposure, and I wouldn't worry about the white sky.

Andrew
