Bodensee Blues Photo

Photographer’s Note

After a number of pictures from various members to present the Murtensee last month, here is another lake entering the Swiss lake blues series, the Bodensee, known in english as Lake Constance.

Well actually not entirely Swiss as this one is shared by three countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but I'm here on the Swiss side in Arbon. Nothing that much spectacular, just the lakeshore with the usual harbour, the early night mood and the long exposure turning the moon in to a shining sun, an effect I always enjoy.

With 536 km2 the Bodensee is the third biggest european lake after the lake Balaton and the Lake Geneva. Maximal depth is 254m.

A top entry for compos taking in the 'blue hour'. Excellent light control and a big add on the huge moon up there. Adding some great reflections and balancing well with the lower left light spot. Good work.

This is very nice, Jean Yves, I couldn't believe it was the moon at first. I like the moon path on the water, and it is very nice that the second path exists in the left. Very nice light management here, it is all so blue...

je pensais que l'été, c'était "Happy hour" ou l'"heure jaune d'une celebre boisson anisée" ... non non c'est blue hour made in Terror !
Jolie expo et joli vue sur ce lac. je regrette juste un peu le format de ton post, à mi chemin entre le carré et le 24x36, que je trouve pataud ... lourd ... je te propose une version slimfast, allégée (;))

The blue colour tones become happy very regular interrupted through the lanterns this gives a very lovely view, also the reflection beam make your picture very attractive. Lovely night shot, I think for my camera also F22 ISO 2500

De bleu de bleu!! (ouais, je sais, elle était facile celle-là...) :o)
C'est une photo à marquer d'une pierre blanche (ou bleue) car je constate que pour une fois ça n'est pas le 10-22mm qui était sur ton boîtier. Tu l'avais donc encore prêté à quelqu'un? ;o)
J'aime beaucoup cette lune qui se prend pour le soleil mais je rejoins Hughes en ce qui concerne le format de l'image. La version Slimfast me convient mieux (et puis les régimes c'est de saison).

Allé les bleus ;-) Tu sais combien j'apprécie les images aux fort tons de bleu, donc pour moi c'est encore une réussite ici. Le cadrage est bon et le soleil donne une belle touche dans le ciel ;-)

What amazing rich blue colour you have here, just another hue of blue in your portfolio, are there any more to collect? ;)
The photo is of course also well executed in your usual fashion, and the exposure time just right to produce slight flaring of the moon and lights. The choice of location is great complimenting the blue theme well.

Hi Jean, I like the extra ordinary blue in this photo. The photo is sharp and the soft reflection from the moon on the lake is nice.
Wonder at what time you took the photo for such a nice light ?

Great night time shot, showing the moon and a beautiful reflection. I'm surprised that the water doesn't appear smoother given the long exposure. I'm going to have to look into night photography one day (now that I've been inspired!). Very nice piece of work!

C'est l'heure terrible pour les pixels bleus !
Agréable ce beau clair de lune qui éclaire fortement le paysage. Aussi une image de qualité que Hugues a bien fait de tailler. pour ma part, j'en aurai enlevé un peu plus ;o))

Effet inversé parcrapport a ma photo dans le désert ou le vent de sable occultait les rayons du soleil. Je n'ai pas pigé comment tu mettais des "rayons" à la lune. Est ce unbiquement l'usage d'un diaph tres fermé ?

Agréable ce lac tout bleu et ce reflet doré sur l'eau.L'atmosphère est remplie de quiétude,une ambiance de paix est palpable ici.Très réussi.

Une vue un peu particulière du lac de Constance, nocturne, mais qui ne laisse échapper que peu de détails. Il se pourrait que j'y fasse un saut un de ces jours.
En attendant, je serai à Bâle à l'heure prévue.

Hi Jean Yves,
Excellent shot with the full moon. I like the dark shades of blue here. Not sure if the pier in front balances the shot or just disturbs. I might have excluded it by taking one step forward.

I want to clarify that Bodensee is the third biggest Central European lake, while there's lots of bigger ones in Finland, Sweden and Russia. In Finland it would be 9th biggest.
