Photographer's Note
This series of photographs is offering a short journey around Switzerland, a landlocked country geographically divided between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura, bordering with France, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Italy.
Switzerland (the Swiss Confederation) consists of following 20 cantons (states) and 6 half-cantons: Aargau, Appenzell Ausserhoden*, Appenzell Innerhoden*, Basel Landschaft*, Basel Stadt*, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Glarus, Graubünden, Jura, Lucerne, Neuchatel, Nidwalden*, Obwalden*, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Solothurn, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Ticino, Uri, Valais, Vaud, Zug and Zurich (*=half-canton).
From each canton I’ll post 2 photos and from each half-canton 1 photo, total 46 photographs.
Thurgau
The canton of Thurgau is located in north of Switzerland bound by the Lake Constance across which lies Germany and Austria. The river Rhine creates the border to Germany in the northwest. To the south lies the canton of St. Gallen and to the west lie the cantons of Zürich and Schaffhausen. The capital city is Frauenfeld.
This photo shows Fish Market Square of the medieval to baroque old town Arbon on the Lake Constance, tightly surrounded by houses with fountain (woman holding fish) in its centre.
Arbon lies on the Rorschach - Romanshorn - Kreuzlingen passenger ship route and is linked to Germany by busy shipping traffic.
The shores of Lake Constance near Arbon have been inhabited since the Stone Age. During Roman times, Arbon was probably a Roman fort.
The raised situation and view over the lake were strategically important. Since 1957, regular excavations have shown the remains of late Roman fortifications.
The Latin name of Arbon, Arbor Felix (meaning happy tree), first appears in around 280.
Arbon is located 217km northeast from Bern and 100km east from Zurich.

Hi Miro,
1. Could not do without the scaffolding.
2. I thisnk this town's name pronounce without the "g".
The place is typical Swiss, flowers on balconies, wall painting with no extravagance, and I like the beer-barrel aside of the tables.
Lovely sight, enjoyable place.

Miro
Even yesterday I saw a picture with the sides painted with frescoes.
A beautiful place.
Order, cleanliness, great attention to aesthetics and functionality.
Typical of Switzerland, but the "photographer" captures what we love and belonging as cultural baggage.
Thanks and regards.

Hi Miro,
Cosy looking village square. You capture the feeling of this place well though it would be nice to have some people around. That big wall painting with a boat is quite impressive. Bodensee region is a certainly worth a visit even though it is not so famous as the muontain regions of Switzerland.

Hi Miro,
The wideness of the square us giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the bvuildings. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.
