Photographer’s Note

Locomotive number 7 of Vitznau-Rigi Bahn climbing towards Rigi Kulm. This cogwheel steam locomotive is from 1873 and was the very first locomotive built by legendary Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik (SLM).
Number 7 was in active service until electrification of Vitznau-Rigi Bahn in 1937. Distinctive vertical boiler was chosen for more even water level on steep grades, but it was later converted to horizontal one for easier maintenance. Current boiler is from refurbishment in 1996. Number 7 has been on display at Swiss Museum of Transport until comeback as the highlight of Rigi-Bahnen in 2009.
