Photographer’s Note

It looked reasonable to go upstream up to this point, but given the strength of the water coming down there's not much room forward left...
Taken at the foot of the Rhine fall near Schaffhausen

P.S. if you are viewing this image on a notebook it might look overexposed, but the only truth about overexposure is delivered by pixel values and on this image max pixel values is about 251, which is beyond most notebook screens display capability...

Bonjour, JY. Ça pourrait presque illustrer une fable de La Fontaine qui commencerait ainsi 'Un canot vit une chute d'eau Qui lui parut bien grosse...' La chute est impressionnante avec ces gros rochers qui la partagent. L'embarcation est bien placée dans la composition et contraste avec les couleurs environnantes.

It's probably the telephoto but it looks as if he has nowhere to go! The falls looks full of drama and the fast shutter was the perfect choice for such a lot of water in full sun. No sign of oe on my screen.

Ce qu'on peut constater en tout cas, c'est que les rouges ne s'aventurent pas en terrain dangereux... Poules mouillées ?!

Très impressionnant ce décor. La chute d'eau est vertigineuse et semble vouloir avaler cette pauvre embarcation.
Super qualité, comme d'hab', et une lumière superbe.

Il ya quelques années j'étais là à regarder dans la chute belle et grande du Rhin.
Pour la perspective, imaginez que vous aussi vous alliez sur un bateau ou vous avez utilisé un téléobjectif.

Hallo Jean Yves,
Luminous whites of the waterfall have been exquisitely perfectly rendered, it's truly superb. It's also interesting that a nikon boat seems to try to leap on the waterfall as well as salmon.
It seems that black became stronger recently. By the way, my sound system is set in 12dB Bass (150Hz) Boost.

Prise de risque maximale pour ce Jaune (c'est pas tropicalisé ces trucs là!). Je comprends que tu aies préféré monter à bord du bateau rouge (que l'on imagine!) beaucoup plus sûr. Ces chutes du Rhin sont assez impressionnantes et pas toujours évidentes à photographier sauf pour toi qui a parfaitement réussi l'exercice.

Impressionnant endroit vu depuis un angle assez peu commun. J'aime bien ce bateau jaune qui semblerait assez incongru ici si on ne savait pas quel site touristique d'importance représente le chutes du Rhin.
L'embarquation donne une très bonne échelle du lieu.

Pour ma part rien n'est surexposé ici. Il y a même de la marge.

Je vois que tu t'es équipé d'un joli équipement avec ce 28-300 !!
J'ai souvent hésité lorsque je voyais des occases !
Qu'en penses-tu ?? Ce caillou vaut-il la peine d'investir ?

Awesome moment, well timed. I'm on a laptop, and some of the foaming water looks only just a weeny bit over-exposed. Your exposure was pretty good considering the amount of white in the scene. Presume you were on another boat. It would have been easy to centre the yellow one, but it's nicely placed left of the middle, with the white water making a gentle slope up to the top right corner. Nicely done..

This angle from below falls is optimal for presenting the size and power. And the boat is good for illustrating the scale. I'm glad I nowadays have a good display, foaming water looks great dancing close to the edge of overexposure.

I had never seen the famous Rhine falls and they look really impressing. The size of the boat (not to talk about the colour) gives a good measure of their grandeur. I particularly like the colour and riplles of the river.
(By the way: all the monitors are different - non only notebooks, or they are differently set. I think there are many people who are not aware of this, have their monitor not set correctly and... post overexposed photos! (:-)

Jean Yves :))) Nein hilfe, noch mehr Touristen mit diesem Foto ... ein gutes Foto, aber es entspricht so total einhundert Prozent nicht der Wahrheit ... aber das wissen wir ja beide. Die kuenstlerische Freiheit, ich mache das laufend, wir machen es alle laufend, wir wollen die Wahrheit nicht sehen, oder nicht immer. Und die vielen Wows geben uns recht, die Betrachter sind begeistert. Ein gelungenes Foto, selbstverstaendlich, don't misunderstand me, natuerlich mit diesem gelben Boot, aber dazu stehen kann ich auch nicht wirklich, als eine, die schon dortstand. Jaja jetzt hoere ich auf, schlussendlich ist es qualitativ gesehen toll, auf jeden Fall. Na ja, meine Meinung ... GRINS. Beste Gruesse + schoener Nachmittag ... Barbara.

PS. Ich bin wegen genau so einem Foto 1000 km gefahren ... es war im Geo ... ein Hotel mitten in der Wildnis, bis man dortsteht ... LOL.

Ton image me fout un coup de Blues... Je jouais à Schaffhouse hier, mais si j'ai bien vu les chutes une fraction de seconde (depuisle train, côté allemand) je n'ai guère eu le temps de passer là... Concert....

J'aime bien le bateau sponsorisé par Nikon. C'est également une de me souvenirs de gamin d'avoir ramassé quelques goûtes sur le dos en le prenant (ils étaient plus gros à ce moment là).

Un grand salut de Vaduz... avant Bucarest demain... Mais j'ai pas le Nikon; ma valise est trop petite... J'ai failli acheter un G10, mais les magasins déconnent. il est à 576 Francs sur le net et le photographe en veut 750.-.... En plus on pouvait s'en faire rembourser 80 balles le mois passé! L'occasion a été ratée!

the boat must've had a good engine to get so close to the falls in the first place, I imagine that the power of the water was very strong to push the boat back, the vessel looks so tiny against the rocks and the churning water. good timing to capture this, and I bet the owners of the boat thought of photographers when they painted it bright yellow, the colour makes it look even more like a bath-tub toy :)

With out the little boat, I would think that this image was just he picture of a regular stream, but not, this is an amazing waterfall and furious river, good one Jean.
