Photographer’s Note
It all began with two cats :))))
One day Colin …crhieatt wrote to me that during his summer vacation him and his wife would house-sit, taking care of a flat and a cat in Basel and if I had some inside knowledge where to go so I told him about some things to visit and why not coming to the Zuerich area as well where I live and that by the way my vacation would be very similar to his but in Colorado, taking care of a house and a cat just like him.
Last Sunday we finally met but in our weekend home in Unterwasser and as it goes the sun never really was out too much when you have guests but it was not bad at all actually compared to last year when it rained (sorry Kari) but we all thought it was pretty exciting, the clouds hit the mountain pretty much so we were in and out the fog, sometimes you could hardly see each, the other moment the sun let the green be greener, on and off. Very very nice and special … Wales weather :))) Thank you Colin and Kay … and of course Benno for being so patient with us when we went a little gaga over rocks, plants and tiny people … yes we took many photos.
We now share kittycat pictures via email. The Basel version comes from Africa, ours was from South America … very international as it seems. Amazing what four pows, two ears and a little fur can do to make you happy.
About the photo: The people in the picture are other hikers, being active no matter what age they have. A typical Swiss scene on a Sunday in summer when nothing keeps you inside. Fog in the background, a little challenge maybe. The Alpine meadows were just lovely, in full bloom peaking now in July.

lol, lol :))) Barbara, do you know that Benno deserves a medal for being so patient? :) I know exacty what you mean by going gaga over something completely stupid only others with cameras could appreciate :) in fact, I have noticed that for a while now I mostly meet and travel with people who are in one way or another connected to photography, I guess to make sure they share my gagas :D
I also share your assessment of the power of four paws, ears ans fur, I miss having a cat these last 3 years.
but back to the photo - a real soup, as you say, looks like the edge of the world. and I keep admiring you, because me - I'm really bad with vertical frames.
best,
Kristine

The cloud-fog is unbelievable here:)
You have managed to show it perfectly, I also like the clothes colours:)

Bonjour Barbara,

Hello Barbara,
This is amazing to see how close you were to the clouds, while still in the sun!
The light enhances that contrast, as well as the numerous yellow flowers.
A very pleasant composition!
I wish I will see the mountain in summer again one day!
Have a nice evening,
Marianne

nice photo with lot of space for the cloud, it's a little bit minimalist, but the people add something more, the feeling we are here with them for a pleasant walk in the mounts

Hi Barbara,
I love reading you story, than the photo. Well what can I say, it looks like the sun never shine for you wherever you go, even in places that never rained it will rain on you :) Let me know when you come to CA and I will have my umbrella ready :)
I love this one, it looks like they are so high close to heaven, after that layer of cloud and they are there. Love all the dandilions on the open field and I like that you left much of the top plain and simple. Just lovely. Have a nice day, weekend is almost here.

Hallo Barbara,

Barbara, I like it, it is powerful in a subdued sort of way and it is a very pleasing composition. Good work.

Hi Barbara
I love all that negative space. It really creates the feeling that one is high in the Alps. It also forces the eye to the beautiful field of daises and the hikers who are enjoying the walk.

Liebe Barbara,

Hello Barbara!!
And yes, I had to laugh (quite a bit) when I saw this one. We must have been standing right next to each other at this moment because I have one almost identical - minus the hiker on the left - on my memory card!! Maybe, sometime, you will see it - and I might be accused of photo theft - stealing baba's photos and cropping them down a little!! ;)
Again, thank you for this great day on the mountain :))
Cheers

Hi, Barbara,
I love the lighting in this shot: the low sun angle to the right brilliantly lighting the hikers who are set against the rather ominously dark mist in the background. (Not so much like our more friendly fogs near San Francisco, I think),.
I've had a chance to look at several of your recent posts and am intrigued by your use of large expanses of almost monochromatic sky or land with little people forming the reference scale. I guess we are all little on this planet!

- William

Hallo Barbara.

Hi Barbara,
Lovelly! I like the way you maneged to capture the people so clear despite the fog on the background. The yellow flower are really nice and add such a great color contrast to the scene.

Flavia

Hi Barbara,
There is nothing like the mystery of a lifting fog that suddenly reveals features and colors just to thake them away in an instances.
Love gentle crest with the dandilions every where in July! Must be due to the high altitude to see them so late in the season.
Regards, Tom

Hallo Barbara!

Hi Barbara,
excellent capture, excellent composition! and an original one: with the fog as the background - as if over there is the end of the world :o)
By the way, the WS photo is great, too: I like it very much. I especially like the DOF ;)
Warm greetings from hot Moscow,
Elena
PS. It was really very, very nice meeting you! even though for such a short while and in the rain :)
PPS. I didn't manage to walk about the mountains this time.... like the hikers in your photo :) But maybe next time??

Hi Barbara
I like how you have included so much sky and the vertical format - it really increases the feeling of being in the mountains. Good dof and the yellow flowers are a great inclusion. Tfs, Marlene
