Photographer’s Note
A fair bit of snow had fallen through the night on this late October day when our fall vacation began. The weather forecast was pretty clear so it was not exactly what you would call a surprise when we peaked through the curtains still being rather unfriendly outside but the later the day the more sun came through and I could not sit still but had to go out … I could not resist :) This is just over the road from our weekend house, and whenever the mood changes I am right there catching the situation - my file “around the house” is growing rapidly but as the season comes and goes, my photo work changes too. To me this hill with the little forest offers a wide spectrum and I am quite surprised what comes out.
The area I am showing you is called Toggenburg, and some years ago we found out that there is a Toggenburg Mountain ski facility in the State of New York. When we visited Vermont two years ago we were just about to visit this other Toggenburg but then we decided that it was a rather crazy idea sitting in the car for hours just to see another ski lift :) Well have a look yourself how the New York Toggenburg looks like … Toggenburg NY

Hi Barbara,
This is a fine composition with areas of snow, the blue sky and the diagonal line in between. Excellent framing.

Hallo Barbara,

Hi Barbara,
The light snow make a very pleasing journey up the steep hill to the contrasting green shrubs then to the vibrant blue sky and long clouds that seem to touch this very tranquil Swiss landscape. In Vermont they pray for early season snow for the holiday skiing season.

Hello Barbara,
Oh dear this is what I have to look forward to - snow. Lovely framed. The diagonal snow and sky complement each other. Tech details are very good. Greetinns! Danilo

Lovely one - I like its simplicity and,
if I may say, virginity - as this one is
a first showing snow for this season (at
least the first one I've seen!).
I also noticed you did some flying while
in the US...

Hello Barbara -
Very nice but I don't want to be reminded that snow is on the way. I like this scene with the fall trees in the BG and the bright clearing sky's. The exposure looks to be spot on as the snow is white and with some texture. Well done for so early in the season.
Thank you for sharing.

Hallo Barbara!

Hello Barbara! Very nice capture especially with the exposure to keep the whites very bright but also perfectly capture that beautiful blue sky. The texture in the snow is well seen and the remaining green trees of the season add nice contrast.

Hi Barbara,
The framing attracted me to this photo with its harmonious 1/3 angles. The last of the fall color divides the sky from the hillside nicely. When combined with the FG detail and the three dimensional clouds, you get such great DOF that I feel I'm standing right there, looking up the slope.
The first snowfall is always exciting. I got two of them before I left Oregon and I was just like you, out taking pictures of everything. Alas I'm stuck in Southern California for the present.
