Photographer’s Note
Euregio Bodensee (3/5)
Voralpen-Express train from Luzern to Romanshorn on Sitterviadukt. With height of 99 m this bridge is the tallest normal gauge railway bridge in Europe. Unlike one might think it's not high on the Alps but near St. Gallen where river Sitter runs on a deep gorge. Shooting locations are easiest to reach from station of St. Gallen Bruggen.
Note on exposure: The brightly painted train on sunshine is probably the brightest element on bridge shots. Be careful not to overexpose. I've also often used too slow shutter speed, giving the train unsharp appearance.

Hi Kari, I am really amazed with this view. While the first bottom half of the photo is tranquilizer, the second upper part is terrifying. An extraordinary photo. Regards, Tolga

I agree there are lighting difficulties to this scene but your shot is spot on. The timing of the train is perfect and well composed.

Hello Kari! I sometimes take the Voralpen-Express from Rapperswil to Wattwil (coming from the HB in Zurich with the S7 along the Lake of Zurich ... I like that part, or over Uster) and change there for Unterwasser for another "express" ... not really express but quite a nice ride and the last part is the Postauto and then walking to my house :))) Impressive catch, Kari, I really like it, with the train going over the bridge, pretty high up there ... Enjoy your evening ... Barbara.

Hei Kari,
Yes, like Frank commented, this photo is a great combination of nature and technology. You have controlled the difficult light conditions very well. A good composition and beautiful colours. How long did you have to wait for the train to appear? ;-)

A trainscape! Just like I like them! :) The double bridge view is amazing. And the greens, the blue sky acting as clear background for the train, the river. Even the electric lines... One of your best!

Hi Kari,
Outstanding vertical presentation of this narrow river valley image.
Love how the eye wanders naturally from the river, the small foot bridge, the green forest walls to the railsroad bridge, silver train and vivid blue sky.
Wonderful clear colros and sharp details to this beautifully seen image.

Kari,
This is an amazing railroad shot. Your composition is great with the river leading the eye through the shot. The vertical format works great here showing the height of the scene while providing the shot nice depth and direction. The lighting and colors are fine with nice sharpness and detail.

Asa

Terve Kari,
This DOES look high, and going vertical in framing is just the right decision to render the height properly, I can understand the exposure challenge here and you have mastered it quite well, I like this scene a lot, too bad there are so many wires behind.
Have a nice day JY

I love the dramatic nature of this shot - the train is hovering over the river. Great vertical shot choice - the composition is just spot on.
Great work - its a marvellous shot.
