Photographer’s Note

The Baroque basilica of Sankt Gallen's Cathedral is one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. It has been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both the cathedral and the basilica are works of Peter Thumb and date back to 1767. The structures took 12 years to complete.

Although the interior of the basilica is not large per se, various visual feats manage to add breadth and depth. The ceiling frescoes are all work of a single painter, Josef Wannenmacher. The light-green stuccowork which is designed to draw your attention upwards to the ceiling frescoes also stands out, it can be encountered in many churches around Bodensee and is characteristic of the region.
