Klöntaler See in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland. Like most bigger alpine lakes Klöntaler see is dammed for water power production. But as the water level is kept stable the lake looks very much being in a natural state.

Glarus is maybe least well known of the Swiss cantons. As a practically (and in wintertime literally) dead end valley it's easy to pass by. Still, Glarus easy to reach with just an hour train ride from Zurich. Scenes like this are available a couple of kilometres uphill from canton's capital with the same name. And all this without herds of mass tourism.

I have now pictures of all 26 Swiss cantons on my gallery (second after PixelTerror). At the same this is my 100th Swiss upload. To celebrate this I made Top 18 Switzerland theme of my most popular shots.

Hi Kari,
...and 100% romantic atmosphere. Composition is very attractive, I like the spectacular details, first of all the gorgeous sky. Lights are excellent, clarity as well. Splendid shot. Have a nice day

Hello Kari! You have certainly left the normal tourist tracks and discovered places most leave out and sometimes not even Swiss bother to visit. This is what I like about Switzerland so much that you can drive just a little and you may find out that the culture has changed, maybe not much but just a little. Maybe go to a bakery and try their specialities and you know that you have just entered another new world. This is a lovely photo by the way and it looks as these clouds up there have given you the chance to see some sun and make this photo. This is nice, Barbara.

Hi Kari,
Beautiful Swiss lake (dam). Great colors & atmosphere & very well exposed. Nice to see that little flowers in the corner. Regards. Latiff.

Hi Kari,

Very peaceful place. I like very much the excellent POV, the soft light, beatiful colors and good details. Good sense of depth.

Best wishes
Leonor

Hi Kari,
Outstanding deep of field and point of view. It's almost a 3D image.
But I don't agree with the title. Where is the snow, the cows, the chalets, the army knifes, the chocolates, the banks, ...?
Just kidding :-)
What I appreciate very much at TrekEarth (and in the real world too) are these views out of the beaten track. Perhaps I wouldn't click the thumbnail if this was a typical Swiss view, similar to many others of the well known cantons. (Anyway, typical Swiss views are beautiful and worth seen too).
Regards, F.

Terve Kari,
And congratulations for being the 2nd one to achieve the big Swiss tour, we're still waiting for a swiss friend to join us on the podium ;-)
I agree with you in that there are not many photos from Glarus on TE and elsewhere as well, I like the small water glow and side coloring thanks to a light ray through the clouds, but the view is a bit empty, I hope you did not miss the opportunity to say hello to my friend there !
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves
