Photographer’s Note
It is not long away that this path to Rotsteinpass is no longer accessible and a white coat will cover the land until next spring, probably until late April or even May. For this area the prognoses are lots and lots of snow for the weekend and I cannot wait and I love the idea to spend my weekend in my cottage which is deeper down from this area (at least two hours walk), sitting at the fireplace, reading a book and let the snow flakes fall. This for me is true peace and my secret “youth fountain”. It calms me down from a hectic week downtown running around and in the end you have no idea what you have done but you were there. This picture is a little series and in case you get bored just go to my neighbour’s picture :))))) We had already been up for some hours walking uphill for at least two hours when I took this photo and almost one more to reach the top … and the restaurant. Not many people on this path other than us and a few others not minding the cold and the early morning hour. A fantastic hike and one of my highlights in 2008 … sometimes the obvious is just around the corner.

Hello,
Very interesting capture with that moon at the background. Beautiful contrast between rocks and perfectly blue sky. Great depth of field. Simply amazing view. I like it very much.

I didn't have to look who posted this photo, such a winter scene could only be Barbara's :) I like it a lot, especially the contrast between the bright light and deep shadow, and how the path in the foreground lead the eye towards the tiny moon [another trademakr of yours :))] hard to explain, but the diagonal composition with that moon makes the photo look very "National-Geographic-illustrating-the-rotation-of-the-Earth" like :) or may be the photo was taken from the other planet and the moon is actually a verrrrry distant Earth :))) not sure if I make any sense here. the bottom line - excellent work, both technically and artistically.

Kristine (broadcasting to you live from the UN)

Hi Barbara,
Great framing, the way the path leads right to the moon really emphasizes the moon while the strong diagonal cut beween sunshine and shadow is very dramatic. It is a shame to hide your other poist in the WS, I love its detail and color.
You're right, there is something very peaceful about sitting in front of the fire reading as the snow falls. Although on snowy days, my typically late-rising partner is haeded up the mountain, long before the sun rises, to catch those first tracks. Of course, you'll never catch me complaining about first tracks either.

Hallo Barbara!

Hi Barbara,
Hate to be a party pooper, but I do prefer your workshop image, or at least i think it deserves its own post, now I'm confused.
Graphic shot looking across this featureless plain onto the mountains.
I like your extreme tilt, for me it offers a different perspective to the shot.
I hope breakfast was delicious.

Hi, Barbara.
Just like Kristine said : no need to look at who's posted this one, we know it straight away by looking at the thumbnail! Perfect lighting & contrast, striking diagonal, the moon as icing on the cake. And your WS qualifies as... awesome, TFS!
Well... simplicity is an art in itself. I personally greatly appreciate it.
Have a nice evening, I'll see you soon.
HUGS,
Fulvio.

Hi Barbara,
You must have worked up a hearty appetite by the time you finished this 3 hour uphill trek.
Love the morning light here with the rocky ridge in shadow and the mountaintop in bright sunlight.
Wonderful textures and sharpness to this invigorating view.

Barbara,
Are you paving the path to the moon? It look likes it getting very close, your a little bit off to the left, make sure you turn to the right a little other wise we will miss it. The blue light makes it look cold. I complain about cold too often to you. Okay, it look refreshingly cool, how's that? I like the contrast between the shadow and the light. Good details, usually, I ether over exposed the light or underexpose the shadow. Thanks Barbara for you kind words always and you beautiful sentiment on my 100 post, that make this site worth it, though I sometimes think I wasted too much time. Have a good Friday and weekend.

It's a very creative, almost minimal composition. You could have also called it "Journey to the Moon" as the path takes us right to it. You must have had to get down very low on the cold earth to get this view. There is a big thing about which we differ; I hate winter and hate snow even more!! There I've said it! However I have to agree that it makes superb images, not like the slush we get from time to time in the UK, that closes down the entire country until it stops. I love the WS and think you should post it as a main on another day.

Hi Barbara,

Hi Barnara
Your cosy cottage sounds very inviting. I like the diagonal here that offers a different perspective. Nicely excposed. Have a good weekend.

Hi, Barbara -
Great classic diagonal! I also like the way the curved track in the foreground leads the eye to the moon. Well worth standing around in the cold.
Best,

Liebe Barbara,
so, are you sitting in your cottage with a good book and nice glass of wine as the snow falls? We've got plenty of snow here...
Excellent, how you capture the shadow and the light, with that amazing moon! There is, however, a bit of tilted horizon in your shot. ;-))))
Great job!

Hi Barbara,
here I am to say that this place must be a "youth fountain" for everyone...really beautiful. I like what you did in here. The darkened foregorund contrasts nicely with the illuminated rock at the back. The exposure was well managed and the inclusion of the moon on the intense blue sky works very well. I would give you two more points for the image in the ws. Great job!

Carlos

What an unusual take on walking the mountains, Barbara!
Usually I can't stand 'blue snow', but in this case it works
absolutely perfect. Lovely diagonal and a huge area dedicated
to shadowed area (which is first thing unusual), and then
that great contrast between sunlight and shade!
Unbelievable how you turned that 'boring' rocky terrain
into a wonderful, dynamic and dramatic display of blue!
Love it!
Warm regards,
Robi
PS. And, oh yes, WS photos are great, too!

Good morning Barbara
A striking and eye catching composition for the side view you have chosen in which the two surfaces are strongly lit and shadowed creating a fine impression. I love the beige tint in the blue palette of shades
Have a great day and TFS

hi barbara
wasn't sure about this one when just looking at the thumbnail, but when open full it's very pleasant and your compositional idea becomes aparent with the road leading to the moon. i guess, out of the two i would have picked the one in the workshop: wonderful clarity and light in that one. still i like the road lead in this one.
warm regards,
kristaps
