Photographer’s Note

if it is Swiss, then it must be red and white !

This view shows the Wasserauen railway station with an "Appenzeller Bahnen" train waiting that proudly displays the swiss flag colors red and white. In the far end you can see a much older model of the trains used on this line, it's probably used nowadays for special trips of touristic or festive nature.

Wasserauen is the end of this line and the last village in this valley before starting the ascent to the Seealpsee.

There's lots of very nice details on this one. Cosy looking garden cafe on the left, red train, hilly Appenzell landscape, rusty rails, old railcar and engine shed. And the summer weather. I couldn't possibly wish anything more.

Eh! Eh! You know I love this! One more for my theme. Not because it's just another train pic, no, it is because you do it like no one! You have a perfect eye for this, showing the train in its entirety, lending the needed perspective, the game of light and shadow to emphasize its 3D feeling. The context is awesome as I love to see the little one on the right. Lovely the blue sky and the inclusion of the green trees. Love it!

Dans ma région, plus précisement dans les montagnes neuchâtelooise, le même type de petit train rouge circulent dans les villages périphériques. J'aime bien ce plan pittoresque et ferroviaire ! Ton cadrage est sympa et le rouge contraste parfaitement avec le bleu du ciel. En voiture svp !

Hello JY - excellent perspective, the diagonal of the depot's roof complements that of the train, I also like the way the spiderweb of cables fill the sky.

mi piacciono molto i treni, soprattutto se sono rossi! il colore spicca di più e quando nevica sono spettacolari da vedere nelle montagne svizzere.

Normally overhead lines like this really bother me, but this is such a forest or web of lines that it actually forms some interesting patterns. As usual you have some great colour, and an intersting note too. Thanks for sharing!

L'avantage avec les trains suisses, c'est qu'ils sont beaux. Chez nous, à part le TGV, c'est pas terrible. J'aime bien aussi les cables qui meublent le ciel.

Bonjour, Jean-Yves. Les deux pôles d'attraction de ton image sont bien mis en évidence dans ta composition: le train moderne par sa position qui part de l'avant-plan et parcourt la photo, l'ancêtre sur lequel le regard va buter en suivant les rails. On peut également s'échapper vers le beau paysage de l'arrière-plan en empruntant la voie de gauche.

Hi Jean,
The spider's web appearance of the wires and even the tracks to the right balance the frame, as does the little sub-station off to the right with the secondary train car. The train is nicely angled into the scene, with superb clarity and contrast. I also like the depth obtained and the view of the lush hills in the distance. A pleasing shot from late spring to warm our bones.

You chose a excellent angle so we can see the curve of the rails beside the train, also the train care for good perspective, I like the points to the old railway station, a pity we see no people on this platform.

Hi Jean,
very interesting composition. Very rich colours, yes especially red and white and blue sky. I dont know why I like the lines of wires above the trains, may be it harmonises with the railtrack.
the perspective is straight on into the line too.
simply simple and beautiful.
