Photographer’s Note

Wildkirchli is the name of a 3 caves system in the cliff below the Ebenalp. Here at 1488m over sea level, a chapel was first created in the cave in 1657, completed in 1785 by an altar (click for WS) and in 1860 by the belltower you can see here. This was by far not the first use of these caves where rests traced back to 60000 BC have been found.

The path going along the cliff by the church is quite narrow, and to the left is a fatal void, hidden here by the plant, under the morning light a better view would be possible from a position more to the left but I have limited trust in miracles and will leave it up to photographers more tired of life to present it...

Un superbe vert-bleu-blanc-rouge , pour un lieu vraiment étonnant . Cette petite chapelle coincée contre la falaise est tout à fait oriinale . Et il ne faut pas avoir le vertige pour la rejoindre .

Cette petite chapelle donne l'impression d'être encastrée dans le rocher. On doit obtenir des indulgences juste en faisant l'effort de monter jusque là. Bravo pour tes 80 000 points. Tu dois avoir la palme car je n'ai pas le souvenir d'un score aussi élevé.

Bonjour Jean-Yves,
Un lieu magnifique pour bâtir une chapelle.
Représentation fantastique du paysage montagneux avec le sentier invitant (provocant) à côté du gouffre.
Très belles couleurs et surtout le rouge de la chapelle contrastant avec les rochers gris et l'air bleu.

Splendide ! Tu es allé la chercher bien haut celle-ci !! C'est magnifique ! Quelle est la force qui a poussé des hommes à construire cette chapelle à cet endroit !? Joli tâche rouge dans ces montagnes.
Le paysage doit être splendide depuis ce point de vue privilégié.
Superbe format verticale qui accentue l'effet de la falaise.
Je vois que tu fais le tour du canton !... Un meeting dans la région...

Good scenery and remarkable location for this small church, JY. Good and obvious choice for a vertical framing to illustrate the height and scale of things. The red paint provides a vivid color dash amidst the mountain scenery. Well captured and described, including the WS shot.

Salut Papgolfade Terror,
La prochaine fois tu prendras une corde pour t'accrocher à la barrière et nous faire ça sous un meilleur POV. C'est dommage de n'en voir que la moitié, même si elle ROUGE! :o)
Je vois qu'il a fait très beau à l'Est aujourd'hui ce qui n'était pas le cas à Genf (même si on n'a pas eu de pluie). La falaise est superbe, mais un peu trop surplombante pour que je prétende y venir avec mes chaussons.

The red structure on the side serves as a veritable chop mark evocative of a Chinese scroll painting. The composition, colors and resolution are first rate, especially the bluish reflection of the sky in the snow in the mountains.

A very appealing landscape composition with these soaring cliffs. The little red cabin adds a nice splash of colour and contrasts well with the greys of the stone. Light and colours are superb as is sharpness.

Quite a viewpoint, path going below cliff gives a good close-up view of the mountain face. And the chapel add colour to the scene. Vertical framing fits perfectly with this.
(I'll be again in Switzerland 22.6-3.7, and Appenzell is one possible destination.)

I think the strong color contrast provided by the blue sky, the red door, green vegetation and white grey cliff wall all combine very nicely to make this vertical composition a fine view.

The sharpness and clarity helps to give it a fine impression.

cette chapelle est située dans un endroit incroyable,je me demande ce qui les incitaient à construire dans des endroits les plus inaccessibles possible!Dommage qu'on ne puisse pas mieux se rendre comprte de la hauteur!T'aurais pu faire un effort d'imagination et trouver une technique pour un meilleur POV!Le rouge donne une belle tache de couleur,dee toute façon,toutes les couleurs de cette photo sont splendides!

Une curieuse et vertigineux placer pour trouver une chapelle, a bien fait de ne pas risquer votre physique.
Perspective, il doit être fantastique, à en juger par ce que vous voyez sur cette capture d'écran.
Original composition avec une superbe lumière et les détails. Très intéressant à l'intérieur de la grotte.

Ah, that is the first image that I see that you improved your photographic gear by a digital full frame and the red church is certainly the perfect backdrop to celebrate the brand of your camera ;-)
What you wrote in your note is that really 60,000 BC or should it be 6,000 BC? 60,000 would be way before the Ice Age. Is that possible? What were the swiss ancestores looking like? I guess they didn't have cheese but probably Mammooth fondue?

Hello Jean-Yves, your vertical choice allows us to see the hugeness of the rock formation and the wonderful blue sky. The red façade of the chapel is a nice detail which makes the composition more vibrant.
