Appenzell Countryside Photo

Photographer’s Note

Appenzell is a rural region of Switzerland, known abroad first for its famous cheese. The landscape is hilly and closed to the south by the Säntis Range, to the north it opens to the St Gallen region and the Bodensee.

Many farmhouses populate the fields and from time to time a village groups some of them around a church and some services, here you can get an illustration seeing at the bottom such a farmhouse and above on hill top the village of Trogen.

It seems it is the first time Trogen appears on TE, another one for the Indiana Jones series ;-)

l'avant plan est bien sombre, mais ca passe encore dans cette image, vu que le village supérieur est le sujet ici; fallait-il d'ailleurs inclure les maisons d'avant plan?

Hi Jean-Yves,
You found good viewing point somewhat further from the village centre. Forest, slopes and traditional houses are very Appenzell like. A pity that shadow is just on the wrong place at the house wall.

Une belle lumière illumine le village et les maisons en avant plan.
La partie noir en avant plan agrippe un peu trop le regard mais est compensée par la luminosité des bâtiments en avant plan. Une très belle vue !

Hoi Jean Yves! Aha, darum geht es und Du suchst Dir neue Plaetze aus, die noch kaum entdeckt wurden hier auf TE. Mein ureigenes Appenzell ist vielleicht einsamer als Du es zeigst. Andererseits ist es genau so, viele Schattenloecher wie auf Deinem Bild, die kaum Sonne kriegen und im Winter schon gar nicht. Es ist kauzig, im Appenzell, schlussendlich kommt mein Grosspapi von hier und war ein "Richtiger" von dort mit Fladenhut und Pfeife, die immer qualmte und stank. Leider wieder Montag, haette noch so viel machen wollen am WE ... ich kanns ja meinem Chef sagen, dass ich nach Hause will, da ich so viele Bilder geschossen habe gestern, die parat gemacht werden muessen (auf dem Zuerichsee ... war so so so schoen gestern als es dann auftat ... habe den Zug verpasst von Horgen aus und nahm dann das Dampfschiff instead nach Zuerich ... waren essen im Kanton SZ - bei den Steuerhinterziehern ... GRINS). Grusssss ... B.

This is a great shot. Your composition is fine with the homes in the foreground with the town in the distance. The trees frame the scene nicely helping to draw our attention to the town. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.

I like the way you set up your shots, no wasted space, lots of detail spread throughout the frame. Like the white fence on the right with the light on it, using the hill to semi hide the barn, everything perfectly in place.
Stunning. I hope you don't mind, I'm learning a lot from your style of image design.

Le paysage est joli et le rendu de l'image est très naturel comme à ton habitude.
Dommage que l'avant-plan soit dans l'ombre.

Rien que le titre je salive déjà! Ta quête de la photo d'un lieu inédit (sur TE) continue donc....j'ai plein de petits villages icaunais en réserve si tu veux!Cette fichue colline noire en premier plan "gâche" un peu la belle vue sur le village.

very nice shot of rural Switzerland, how I love this country, the landscape is just beautiful here! I really like this shot, your POV is well chosen to give us a nice view above the countryside and the village in the back. Lovely shot, maybe jsut a bit dark in the front.

Salut JY,

Pas étonnant que personne n'ait encore posté une photo de ce coin... Il n'y a pas beaucoup d'habitants en Appenzell! Même si le coin est charmant, les mentalités sont assez difficile à comprendre pour un citadin lambda...
Par pur hasard, je me suis retrouvé à Appenzell le jour de la dernière Landsgemeinde où l'on a refusé le droit de vote aux femmes... la confédération a depuis imposé l'égalité par la force, mais je crois que ce vote historique leur a fait un sacré coup de pub pour leur fromage pour pas cher... J'ai la photo de cet événement dans mes cartons. Je la publierai un jour!

J'aime bien toutes ces maisons qui sont prévues pour de très grandes familles. On ne fait pas dans le petit ici!

I like the very rural feel here and the perspective with houses in the foreground and then again on the higher plane. Good light although the shadows detract somewhat in the foreground. Well done and TFs. Gerald

the town up on the hill looks quite attractive, also the light on the buildings look great... the dark part on the foreground is a bit distracting but still a nice shot of the place JY...
