Best of Luck to you and Happy New Year !

This image presents the "Silversterchlausen", a tradition of certain parts of Appenzell where these colorful characters organized in small groups called "Schuppel" chase out the old year and welcome the new one. They run all day long from restaurant to restaurant (in Appenzell every 2nd house is a restaurant...), gather in circle to sing some nice songs and expect to gather some fuel (read: liquid) to march on to the next one.

A Schuppel consists of four "Schelli" and two "Rolli", here you see a portrait of a Rolli, with female dress and these nice scenes over the head, despite the dress all participants are males.

The Silversterchlausen run twice a year, first for the new Silvester which is the one we celebrate, then again on 13. january for the old Silvester following the Julian calendar.
