White Christmas in Teufen AR Photo

Photographer’s Note

This image is fresh from this morning and marks the entry of Teufen in the TE gallery, the importance of this Appenzell village on the world map is going to increase dramatically in the near future because this is where I now live, here you can see an image taken in the outskirts of the village while walking the CTs and featuring a typical Appenzell farmhouse, with a small habitation part on the right and a big stall on the left.

Here @ 830m over sea level we got 15 cms of snow last week but over the week end the föhn (warm wind) washed away everything including hopes for a White Xmas, so finding this white landscape when waking up this morning was a nice surprise :-)

Serais tu en passe de devenir un de ces TEers montagnards qui me font baver chaque jour devant mon écran face à des paysages ydilliques? Tu nous présente un beau paysage hivernal qui semble très préservé. Les couleurs froides sont superbes et font bien ressortir cette ferme. Je compatis à ta joie de passer un vrai Noël blanc car dans le Berry, c'était aussi noël blanc mais plutôt à cause du brouillard:-(

Not only wintery but also a perfect "Christmas" scene. Very good pov and very nice compo with soft simple colors.

I see that you're back to the very active participation, JY. I'm sorry for your new address - it looks too much cold for me but I wouldn't mind to make a visit for some sleigh races ;-) This is actually a very beautiful snowed landscape and the best are those gracious winding tracks at left. Perfect exposure on those whites where I can see well the textures.

The curving path is leading the eye to the well positioned farmhouse. Natural colours and good sharpness completing this beautiful winter composition. Good picture for Christmas posting.

Nice white shot with good lead-in from the curvy tracks. The colours of the building stand out nicely against the white and snowy green of the trees. It looks a bit remote for me, but I'm sure you will make me change my mind with some more photos.

Salut Jean Yves! Oh ja, so sehr Appenzell, genau so! Diese weit verstreuten Bauernhaeuser, die sanften Huegel, was noch fehlt ist der bissige Appenzellerhund :))) Wunderschoenes Bild, eine Landschaft, die immer wieder gemalt wird, und jetzt auch fotografiert! Beste Gruesse, bin mindestens 2 Kilo schwerer als vor dem 24.12. ... wieso wird man immer gemaestet, muss denn das sein, aber eigentlich ist es auch schoen. Bester Gruss, jetzt scheint auch hier die Sonne und es ist eiskalt. Barbara.

I like how you have composed the image with the tracks emerging from the bottom corner. The trees with the dusting of snow make a perfect background for the wooden house. You know me JY; I would have been less than pleased to wake up to this view. ;D

It looks like it should be unbalanced, but it's not. I think it's the tree next to the farmhouse that pulls it together. The road leading out of the lower left corner is an extra nice touch. The only thing missing is smoke from the chimney. :-)

That's a very well composed winter image!
All the elements are placed so nicely in the frame creating such an attractive and beautiful photograph! As an example of what I'm saying is the position of the houses in the top left corner with the winding road leading our eyes to them, but perfectly put in the left side!
Excellent management of light and sharpness too!

Hi Jean,
Its a beautiful composition. If I take the snow out of the composition it becomes one of those pictures that we learnt to draw as kids, a house, with a slanted roof, a chimney and a path leading to it. Beautiful atmosphere.

mais que vois-je? 2 photos en 3 jours!Cela voudrait-il dire que tu t'es décidé à revenir,pour notre plus grand plaisir?quoiqu'il en soit,ce paysage est superbe,je t'envie d'habiter dans un endroit aussi beau,et où des photos seront possible à faire toute l'année(chez moi,la lumière est trop grise et moche 99 jours sur 100 en hiver,et 75 sur 100 en été!!!!).Bon,j'exagère peut-être un tout petit peu!Là,même ton ciel blanc s'harmonise avec le paysage,ce qui donne une très belle photo!
Je te souhaite de bonnes fêtes de fin d'année!

Bonjour,
belle photo de cet endroit recouvert par la neige.
Il doit faire bon y vivre avec un bon 4/4 ou une motoneige pour ces rares moment ou la neige vous empêche de faire vos courses( commissions,aller dans les magasins, je ne sais comment vous dites car chez nous, beaucoup d' expressions ne sont pas les mêmes).
Ces arbres recouvert de neige donne un superbe effet a vôtre photo.

It is nice to see new photo from you again! The is a well composed shot with the road leading the eye into the shot nicely. The placement of the buildings is great showing the open field and snow covered trees. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.

Il fait froid dans cette image. Cela se sent... Le brouillard ne doit pas avoir quitté les lieux depuis bien longtemps à voir le givre. J'aime bien le petit chemin qui grimpe jusqu'à la maison qui montre que l'image n'est pas un noir et blanc.
