Photographer’s Note

Bergbahn Rheineck-Walzenhasen is one of the most original railway lines in Switzerland. It's a rack-and-adhesion line rising from shore of Bodensee to surrounding hills in Walzenhausen. Length of line is about 2 km. Maximum gradient of the line is 25%, and it has very rare rail gauge of 1200 mm. The railway has only one piece of motive power, this electric rail car from 1958.

Since 2006 Bergbahn Rheineck-Walzenhasen has been part of Appenzeller Bahnen group, although it is geographically separated from rest of the network.

Beautiful, simply beautiful! This lttle train is the eyecatcher in your photo. I like that one can look down to the valley where it comes from.

Ah that's a funny one, so small and presenting us glowing colors as if it were just coming out of repainting, I like as well its integration in the landscape, no cow in sight but definitely soooo swiss !

I like the red color when it's inserted in a green landscape. I saw it in many of your shots. A great perspective in this one, with this road crossing the railway.

Kari,
This is a very nice scene! The angle of the shot works very well showing depth and direction. Your composition is great placing the houses to one side with the road leading the eye through the shot. The rails form a nice diagonal through the shot. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail. The red train car stands out nicely against the green background.

your are absolutely right talking about a small scale railway.The landscape and the train seems to come from a model train circuit.Very interesting picture.

This train is so cute... it just looks so small! You found the perfect POV to take a shot and show us this red train in its context as it passes by the houses climbing up the hill. As JY suggests, it would be perfect with a cow in the background! ;o)

Kari,
Very typically Swiss scenry, so pristine and neat, green hills, lake, house scatter along the valley. the rail way and the vehicle added much to the scenery. Great sharpness, good DoF, everything is so clear and color and light are very beautiful. Thanks again.

Hi Kari,

The curves of the road and of the hills are assets to the composition. The diagonal lione made by the rail track is a good addition to the composition. There is a good contrast betwwen the red color of the train and the green color of the scenery. Have a nice day.
