Photographer’s Note
This picture is taken at lake Hornborgarsjön in Västergötland. A lake famous for it's birdlife. Especially for a couple of weeks during April when thousands of cranes land here for a well deserved food break on their spring migration.
This year over 12000 Cranes visited Hornborgarsjön and probably twice as many ornothologists came here to have a look at them.
These cranes spend the winters in south Europe or north Africa and their summers up in Scandinavia. Cranes are monogamous and form pairs for life. It is therfor rare to see an odd number of Cranes, they almost always move in pairs. Sometimes the pairs strengthen their bond with a special dance, this is of one of the things that the ornithologists wants to see when they go here.
Make sure to click the image for the full size panorama, this smaller image is slightly cropped. The full size picture was stitched together from 7 separate images.
You might be able to see plenty of bird ghosts in the seams, since the silly birds did not show me the curtesy of standing still between the shots. :o)

Impressive panorama, Mattias, and good job stiching them together. I was wondering when a photo with cranes from Hornborgasjön would show up on TE, when I heard on the news that they had arrived. But I didn't expect this magnitude. I think they have a break in Scania as well, after the flight from Rügen, but usually we only hear them as they catch altitude circling over Lund. Quite some noise!
