Photographer’s Note

No, they don't change colors, but these Swedish Cows do match their environment quite well.

I captured this scene in Skansen, the world's first "open-air musuem". Skansen is a fantastic place and if you ever have the chance to visit Stockholm, be sure to spend at least half a day there -- a full day if you have a chance.

With Skansen, the Swedes have preserved dozens and dozens of traditional structures (barns, houses, school houses, churches) by physically moving them -- contents and everything -- to this large multi-acre open-air park on an island in Stockholm.

You can experience life in the Swedish countryside going back as far as the 1700's, with guides (in period costume) there to explain how each actual family lived.

On the day we visited, as the park was closing, clouds drew in and it began to rain. We then heard a church bell and wandered in for a traditional mass lit by candlelight and accompanied by pipe organ in the small church which was built in 1730. Fantastic!
