And a very good first shot it is. I tried to capture it once, but failed miserably. So I know how hard it is to capture these beauties. You managed to capture this fenomonal sight very good. Great job

Amazing shot, hard to believe it's your first. The trees are crisp and the stars are clear and the aurora is captured well. Good job.

Welcome to TE!
Wow, this is an impressive shot. It must have been amazing to watch this amazing phenomenon. I very much like the angle at which you have captured it, showing both the northern lights and the stars. The silhoettes add a nice touch. Well done!

Something I would love to see but haven't yet experienced. Love the transition of the colours from bottom right to top left. Nice crisp tree-line even if the exposure time has blurred the stars a little. Great shot.

what an amazing photo to start off your life on TE ... Congrats on capturing the lights so well .... The best thing that I liked about your photo is the fact that the stars have come out real well and the tree line at the bottom provides a very dramatic backdrop to the whole scene
Thanks for sharing and I hope that you will have wonderful time on TE
I love the scandinavian culture and hope to see more great photos from you in future
cheers .... sarju
PS: how long was the shutter speed for this shot (30 secs or something)
and one more silly question ... is Dalarna the same place from where the pony at IKEA comes from ?

welcome to trekearth!
this is a marvellous image to start with. i like that you have included the tree line to give some idea of the setting you took the shot in, and the colours are amazing. please give details of the exposure so we know how you captured this lovely scene.

Hi Peter, very nice picture, this northern light is fantastic! I like the starry sky and the visible silhouettes of the trees just fading into the darkness. The colours are awesome. Well done!

It's veru well done, it's amazng to succeed in capturing so many stars with such a sharpness. I love the contraste of the fine shadows of the threes and the large colored light.

I like it, very pleasent to look at.
magiqa (1292) 2006-01-02 20:01
Looks exactly like the January picture in the Alaska Calender I bought for 2006. The winter 1984-85 we could see the northern light very clearly in southern Sweden but it is not often.
Very good picture - I never succeed with taking pics in the darkness. (Too cheap camera...)

A fantastic view of some northern light. Here in Norway we get these during winter when it seems to be extremly cold. Nice colors and shadows/siluettes. But the stars are abit draged.. Thank you for sharing! :D
