Photographer's Note

Evening by the lake
or: Painting with the camera

After dinner at the Swedish Manor where I stayed for some days in July, I went down to the lake to have some shots in the fine summer evening.

What is real? What is a dream? The work behind this photo

Well, not much to do about the nature – I think it has more than enough being itself. But I have found that assisting a little is not that bad.

As for the pre process work: Like throwing a little stone in the water to have some movement in the very silent water surface. I mean waiting for a fish to jump is more for the anglers than for an impatient photographer. Pls. forgive me for this if you think it is ‘interfering’. Forgetting to remove the polarize filter was not intended, but having it on made for a little underexposure that I find not so bad for this photo.

Then the post process: Slightly cropped. In PS Elements with lassotools and levels, a small addition of light to the tree, the foreground and the fine stone/island in the middle of the composition. Then to bring out the mood as I remembered it (some times the camera is ‘lying’ making an original with far too much blue - in this case). Added some warm light by use of some more red and reducing blue in levels. The final touch by using the frame to close in the compo. First a 3 px black line and then the outer frame app. 100 px white.
