This is just west of Lysekil, in a Nature reserve called Stånge Huvud.
The rocks here are granite, 900 million years old. It has been polished into a perfect smoothness during all the ice periods that have formed the landscape here.
The stairs are simply cut as grooves directly in the granite. Up there, you will find this view.

The large version is essential to fully appreciate the colours and shapes of this fascinating landscape. Captured under a sympathetic ambient light, the tones and textures in the rocks are superbly rendered.

I like colors and sharpness.

These smooth polished granite rocks would indeed be difficult to climb without the railing.
Beautiful close-up of this unique landscape at the coast.
With the sun shining and under that blue sky, I get the impression that these rocks feel warm.
Best regards, Paul

I like very much this extremely old and "polished" rock formation. Your composition has given a major role to the railing, it is effective and inviting and makes climbing seem interesting and fun. I love the texture and natural tones of the rocks as well as the delightful warmth they convey. The light is pleasingly rich and clear. The top and the view it offers are wonderful. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

where does this railing lead us?
Abyss or heaven, a lovely granite of best origin and a simple black part of civilization.
Minimal composition is always the key to success.

The large version seems to add so much more to the shot in the way of textures, colours and sense of location! The shadows take on a much greater role, whilst the fractures add to the whole impact of the rock face.
There is a sense of endeavour, the rail being necessary to complete the climb!
Have a lovely Sunday,

A mystic vision with the simple metal rail guiding up the polished granite slope, to where is unknown.
Sometimes, less is more....

ktanska (23172) 2013-11-10 1:52
Without your note I for sure wouldn't have recognized those grooves or "steps". Yes, those smooth rocks look very nice. And that railing adds sense of perspective.
marabu61 (6303) 2013-11-10 4:48
A simple yet so attractive composition. The barren rocks are quite attractive and the railing provide a good line to follow with the shadow creating a nice graphical effect.
abmdsudi (35410) 2013-11-10 5:38
Oh, I do like this, For kicks, why don't you go B&W with this and add some grain on the granite slope. You might get a totally different look, imho. Thanks for sharing it and the fantastic view from the add. photo, it's well composed, nice colours, textures and the railing stark contrast, they are just wonderful! Great works, tfs

Ciao e buona domenica
UlfE (14473) 2013-11-10 8:31

A lot of places here where there are a lot of steep hills for hiker to climb they are placing railings like this for support, I think it's a good idea. Good pov and sharp details with wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
annjackman (16513) 2013-11-11 2:19
I like this tremendously and a picture that I would have been proud of taking. You have managed to take a striking picture out of something that most people would have passed by. The black rail is a strong lead in over the rocks and has given a nice shadow. I am very impressed with the quality of this image with realistic sharpness of the textures in the rock. The colours also are very harmonious.
Excellent and a favourite for me.
Kind Regards, Ann
ChrisJ (92225) 2013-11-11 6:01
Love the strong graphism, superb sharpness and the wonderful warm cold colour contrast between the reddish yellow rock and the blue sky. Aptly titled and it looks a little like the rail on Uluru in Australia before climbing was discouraged. Good upward pov too. Tfs!
Kielia (21953) 2013-11-11 8:06
you have composed a fascinating impression of this already well known place. It is a simple but a very interesting image where the viewer gets an excellent idea of the rock's structure. Great idea and a very successful execution!
rychem (15524) 2013-11-11 8:25
The minimalism is perfect and the title is perfectly matched, simply excellent photo

Hi Gunnar, if going to haven was so easy.. I love walking on such rocks, not too high and steep. And then you are rewarded with a beautiful view.

Excellently composed and finely detailed image with nice simple colors in very good light. A great POV. Very well done. Superb textures, nice light & shadow play and perfect contrast against blue sky. Brilliant photo.

subhendu_bagchi (23713) 2013-11-13 2:27
another great nature photography. The composition is minimal but looks beautiful. The fencing is worth seeing with such contrasting rocks. Great depth and sharpness. Superb shot. Tfs.
trevormoffiet (1796) 2013-11-13 2:29
Excellent composition of granite and handrail. I know this place well and have taken a number of images of this myself. We stayed in Lysekil for 4 night at Strandflickornas Havshotell not far from here. I walked across to this location each evening for the sunset. The title is very appropriate.
The last time that we were in Sweden we were only in Lysekil for about 1hr at lunchtime, on our way to Frederikstad. I knew then that I wanted to return for a longer stay. (but even 4 days is not enough for this beautiful part of the world.)

A simple, but very expressive and aesthetic composition. The graphics of the hand-rail and its shadow is simply perfect. The scene is very well composed, skillfully captured and informatively commented. Excellent job!

This is a specially stairway with the big rocks as steps.
The long black handrail with shadows makes these picture attractive.
Excellent composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

don't know how I missed this one! It is a great image. Love the strong graphical elements. The black diagonal line of the railing, rising up to the blue sky has a dramatic quality. I like the tactile quality of the rock too. The shadow of the railing offers an additional compositional element.
danos (80360) 2013-12-18 10:56
nice the view as the presentation of this black iron rail as is found on the granite and help the climbers to reach the top of it.Excellent the light and the colour management of this arid place.
