Photographer’s Note
This is the Wrangel Palace (Wrangelska palatset) one of many palaces in the Riddarholmen "The Knights' Islet", a small islet in central Stockholm. Since 1753 is has been the premises of the Svea Hovrätt, one of the courts of appeal in Sweden. It has long history and part of it is from the 16th century. Between 1652 and 1670 it was rebuild for Count Carl Gustav Wrangel and it is of course named after him. Carl Gustav Wrangel (1613-1676) was a solider. He served in Germany during the 30 years war. In 1636 he was colonel, and in 1638 major-general. In 1644 he commanded a fleet that deafeated the Danes. In 1646 he was a Field Marshal and become a commander-in-chief of the Swedish army in Germany, He held this post during the last three campaigns of the Thirty Years' War. In 1657 he was appointed Lord High Admiral and in 1664 he became Lord High Constable of the realm. After long successful military career he was defeated at Fehrbellin in 1675 in a battle between Sweden and Brandenburg. He died on Rügen, in 1676. He is buried at Skokloster on Lake Märlaren in the province of Uppland. Skokloster is a Baroque style castle built by Carl Gustaf Wrangel.

Hej Ulf,
Indeed a beautiful palace, the Thirty Years' War must have been very profitable for some of them... I like the low light here and the long shadows, in fact it looks later than the exif data says. This is both a well proportioned building and well proportioned picture!
Kind regards

Hi Ulf,
The skimming light give a very special atmosphere to the beautiful picture.
The long shadows and the alternation with the low sunlight dominate the composition.

Hej Ulf,
usual, I may sound a bit "biased" towards the composition aspects :) But this is how I am!
In this photo the composition appears rather difficult (I mean - I know this place and it is rather difficult to take photos in terms of choosing composition because of all these buildings around... but it seems to me that you chose a good variant - especially I like the inclusion of street lamps in the composition, and, IMHO, the relatively large - almost empty - space on the left balances the big building. I also like the colours and this special lighting!
Have a nice Sunday!
Best wishes,
Elena

Hello Ulf,
an interesting palace, I feel it closer to the Renaissance than the mature Baroque - or is it because of the Scandinavian puritanism only? (By the way: is there any connection between the count and the Russian general who fought against the red troups in 1920-22?) I like the very low side lights that give a good depth and make the lamp in the foreground almost illuminate.
Best whishes

Hello Ulf,
The point of view shows fine details in the classical architecture!
The structure seems to have fine symmetry even if it is hard to tell from this angle...
The low afternoon sun gives fine light, but this kind of backlight as usual results in a thin sky..!

A fine and clear photo in spite of the difficult light conditions. This historical building is framed well and the row of street lamps gives a good sense of depth. I like also the lovely texture of the pavement and the sideway light.
Best regards,
Donato
