Photographer’s Note

The famous statue of presenting St. George and Dragon is located in Storkyrkan — the Church (now Cathedral) of Saint Nicholas in Stockholm. This work is from 1489 and is attributed to Bernt Notke, although there is a dispute of the sculptor. At old times it was often noted who had paid for the work, while the artist was an anonymous craftsman. Saint George and the Dragon is no exception - we know it was paid for by Sten Sture (and 10 of his men), we know the price, and we know who consecrated it - but we do not know for sure the artist. You can read more here.

This photo shows the bronze-copy from 1912-13, moulded by Otto Meyer. It is located in the Köpmantorget square in Gamla Stan. It is a very close copy but some of the parts have been arranged differently from the group in Storkyrkan.

A closer view of the statue itself is in WS.
