A spectacular event for tourists!
Mounted Royal Guards in front of NK department store.
This is one of several consecutive shots which I happened to take while walking by NK store. Actually, I took a lot of consecutive shots, but afterwards I erased most of them, leaving only those of a better quality.
By the way, the guards moved very quickly :)
The Royal Guard traces its history back to the early 16th Century, and the unit has continuously guarded the Royal Palace in Stockholm since 1523.
Between April and August, the mounted squadrons of Livgardet can be seen in Stockholm and around the Royal Palace. Accompanied by the mounted band, they depart from the Cavary barracks in Gärdet and arrive at the Palace around noon (1 pm on Sundays and public holidays) for the changing of the guards ceremony.
Nordiska Kompaniet (colloquially NK, and literally The Nordic Company) is the name of two department stores located in Stockholm and Göteborg.
The company was founded in Stockholm 1902 through the merger of the two companies K.M. Lundberg and Joseph Leja.
In the Workshop: another photo of the series.

Hello my dear Elena
This is a so wonderful image indeed !
Very nice framework, color coordination, clear and sharp focus. Signal is obstacle but no way to avoid, that is regrettable, but I like best for your recent photos.
Congratulation on your great job !
Thanks for your sharing and best regards,

Another interesting street scene from Stockholm and good
notes telling us about the ceremony. They may be moving fast but that is not obvious at 1/501 secs. No doubt you will have a fresh supply of swedish photos soon! Tfs, Marlene

a wonderful picture of joyful parade of the Royal Guard, and interesting NK store building too.
those white and blue make clear and vivid contrast,
and all colors look shining in this light.
reds of flags and a man are nice accent (green lamp too).
then the music and the clatter of hoofs can be heard through the monitor.
thank you for your excellent shot,

This must have made an amazing spectacle as well as making a lot of noise!
The colours and the details are amazing in a great light.
IMO the shot would have been even better had you been able to take the shot before the lead rider turned the corner; then your focus would have been squarely on him.
Have a good day,

Intesante captures, the horses always I like it, very good and shaggy, the colors and the light is ideal, but you have cut the building you could to have included also, good note of the royal guards! Great job!

I do wonder what the Swedish traffic rules say about the mounted royal guards, Are they obliged to stop for pedestrians who have a green light? I am almost tempted to step into the street in front of them the next time I meet them (which doesn't happen very often), just to see what happens.
An expert on the royal guards (and there are a number) would likely know the name of the brown horse walking at the front. They are quite popular and minor celebrities.
A nice and slightly different picture from Stockholm.

Interesting composition to show all these traditional style event, clothes, trasportation and musical instruments, without traffic light it just look like back to hundred years ago, thanks for sharing a lively shoot.

An amusing and good photo of the parade of Royal Guard. Good composition, beautiful colours, excellent clarity. I like the WS too. Its composition is good as well, but here the black horse leading the parade is a real eye-catcher. A nice one!

An interesting encounter with horses and music! Although no expert of horses I get the impression that the first brown horse is a real "working" horse, looks like an Ardennian horse to me, not really an elegant full blood horse I would expect here...

Nice light and perfect placement of your subject.

Horses are a rare sight in Nordic cities nowadays, so this is a pleasant diversion!
The black horse in front is the eye-catcher, maybe he doesn't seem too happy but I guess he hates the drumming by now...
A well framed scene with good details, the fine light renders vivid colours!

Hi Elena. What would our lives be without pomp and ceremony? Especially when it doesn't rain on a good parade or the changing of the guards!i am surprised to read that they moved quickly, particularly since the dark horse looks more like a draught horse.Lovely light as usual and nice composition as they cross the intersection. Regards. Klaudio.
