Photographer's Note

This is the last photo of a series of photos taken in a limited area along Fyris River in Uppsala. It is also a fifth photo of reflections on the river in an autumn day when it was very calm. However, when I took it there was some wind that caused ripples on the water. The building is once again Grand Hotell Hörnan. As with my previous refections photos I have flipped and rotated it 180 degrees for better comparison with other photos of the hotel.

Grand Hotell Hörnan has to day 37 rooms. In the early 1900's, an engineer from Uppsala, Hjalmar Kallenberg, went to Italy to study how hotels were run there. Once back in Uppsala, he acquired a piece of land on the eastern shore of Fyrisån and started to build a hotel of European standards. The architect who designed the hotel was Ture Stenberg.

It the winter of 1907 Grand Hotell Hörnan opened. In those days it was Uppsala's largest and most exclusive hotel with 29 rooms.

The style is neo-baroque with features of Art Nouveau. The facades are plastered in a light color and has a gently curving gable, richly decorated with ornaments and with wrought iron balconies.
