Photographer’s Note
This was taken from a little bridge in Västerås' city centre. A small city, some 110km north west of Stockholm.
These houses look old and have that distinct red paint. Lots and lots of houses in Sweden are painted in that color. I don't know why. I can't tell anything about this city, we just had dinner not far from this location after a day driving thru the beautiful countryside.
HDR image with Photomatix. Two images with exposure bracketing, 2EV step, handheld.

Gilbert,
A great composition in a shot from this pleasant place. The reflections is a nice detail. Amazing the line constructions. Notning is aligned there, is it?

I'm torn between the original and the workshop. This version has a more realistic look in my opinion, and I don't mind that the houses are a little dark. The thing that bothers me about this version is the tilt. Other than that though, it’s an interesting capture of a beautiful little city.

Ryan

A bit too dark, maybe. On the other hand, it may be appropriate since the small river is called Black river.
The city is not small, though. For Swedish standards anyway. Wish I had taken a photo like this one in a town near the one where I grew up.
The red houses is a tradition developed thanks to Falu koppargruva, the biggest copper mine in Sweden. Red paint was made from by products and many houses in the area was painted with this. It later became popular in most parts of the country.
The red brick houses is no Swedish specialty, though.

This is really a nice place. The reflections in the water ad to the beauty of the place.

Hej Gilbert,
The city of Västerås looks great with these beautiful old - and some of them half-timbered- houses. The reflections in the calm water are fantastic too and I love the peaceful mood here. The light is excellent. Well done and thanks for sharing!
Regards,
Lars

Een schattig straatje, maar in de foto lijkt het net of ik teveel heb gedronken (en misschien heb ik dat wel) omdat het lijkt alsof alles scheef staat (wat het geheel juist wat charme geeft).
