Photographer’s Note
This is the local folklore museum at the heritage centre of the parish of Järnskog at Koppom.
This is just one of all the buildings here and inside this one is a museum, exhibiting a lot of things from this area.
I have added two workshop pictures, the first is from the chamber, which is to the left in this photo. The second is taken in the attic. I have chosen to show a special equipment, that used to be very common. They became illegal in 1860!
Just behind this house is a smaller house, that was used as a rest shelter at the first mill at Koppom, a nail smithy. You can see a photo from this shelter here.
There is also a very interesting museum here at the heritage centre called the Emergency Museum (Beredskapsmuseet). As this part of Sweden is very close to Norway there were a lot of activities going on during the war between 1940 and 1945 here. There were a large number of Norwegian refugees coming over the border here to Koppom and there were also a large number of Swedish soldiers stationed here. A significant part of the secret courier traffic to Norway came from this area.
I was three years old when the war ended, but I still remember this day. I was allowed to buy all the candy I wanted, and bought for SEK 0,35. A lot of money thoses days…
You can also read about this heritage centre here. Unfortunately it is all in Swedish, but maybe you can enjoy the pictures!

Hi Gunnar, Very nice picture, so Swedish. Nice house and beutiful view of the room inside. I saw many such musueum (or skansens) in Noreay with old rooms and shops, even "old" vendors, I liked it very much. Fantastic summer colours. Lovely photo

Hello Gunnar,
A great capture of this lovely rustic building whose rich red tones make a fine contrast with the heavenly blue sky. The textures in the woodwork and the roof are beautifully rendered with excellent sharpness. The white shutters offset the red timbers to good effect as well.

Hallo Gunnar!
An all over wonderful contribution! You show us a truly inviting place - and in gorgeous colours. When looking out of my window I would like to sit there now ;-) The appearance of this actually simple building really is beautiful.
Greetings from wet, cool, grey and hazy Siegen! Brrr!

Hallo, Gunnar.
Lovely colours in the sunshine, perfectly 'caught'. I like the way you have the long shadow leading to the open door. And then I see the intriguing path round to the back. As a picture, I would cut off some of the sky, though.
Your note is excellent, as are the links. It is good to be reminded of the old days, even the sad ones in wartime. Illicit stills seem to be a feature of folk museums in mountainous regions of many countries, certainly in the northern hemisphere.
Best wishes from
Winifred, looking out at a shower of snow which does not lie.

Hej Gunnar,
it's strange and funny that such "typical" houses (their "typical" colours) in any environment - be it winter snow or summer greenery - never look boring! is it because of this special red paint? or because of the red-and-white combination? :)
This house reminds me of the houses in Skansen.
Whatever it is, this looks very nice:)
I also liked the ws photos and read the Note with much interest! But I can't understand what was so "illegal" about the equipment! crazy people...
Have a nice week :)
best regards,
Elena

Bonjour Gunnar,
très jolie maison, modeste.
J'aime beaucou ce mélande de vert, bleu et rouge en bonnes proportions, une bonne gestion des lumières hautes et dures qui les rend efficaces.
Regards.
Daniel.

Nice building on a fine day. It looks a lot better preserved than most ordinary houses in Koppom.
