Photographer’s Note

This is the local folklore museum at the heritage centre of the parish of Järnskog at Koppom.

This is just one of all the buildings here and inside this one is a museum, exhibiting a lot of things from this area.

I have added two workshop pictures, the first is from the chamber, which is to the left in this photo. The second is taken in the attic. I have chosen to show a special equipment, that used to be very common. They became illegal in 1860!

Just behind this house is a smaller house, that was used as a rest shelter at the first mill at Koppom, a nail smithy. You can see a photo from this shelter here.

There is also a very interesting museum here at the heritage centre called the Emergency Museum (Beredskapsmuseet). As this part of Sweden is very close to Norway there were a lot of activities going on during the war between 1940 and 1945 here. There were a large number of Norwegian refugees coming over the border here to Koppom and there were also a large number of Swedish soldiers stationed here. A significant part of the secret courier traffic to Norway came from this area.

I was three years old when the war ended, but I still remember this day. I was allowed to buy all the candy I wanted, and bought for SEK 0,35. A lot of money thoses days…

You can also read about this heritage centre here. Unfortunately it is all in Swedish, but maybe you can enjoy the pictures!
