Because Stockholm is situated pretty far up north Spring comes late. This photo was taken in May 2000 from the Smedsudden park and trees and bushes just getting green. Usually the temperatures are not that high yet so no reason to take your boat from winterstabling on shore to the open water, hence the empty marina. The houses on the left are on the Kungsholmen island. Further in the back you can see the towers of the City hall and of three churches in the old town and on Riddarholmen.
The bridge under which the marina is situated is the western brige or Västerbron in Swedish. In 1930 a competition was held to design a new bridge connecting two of the important islands of in central Stockholm, Kungsholmen and Södermalm. The competition was won by some German architects but Swedish architects and engineers constructed the bridge. It was opened in 1935. Västerbron is crossing lake Mälaren in two spans of 168m and 204m and is 26m high.
From Västerbron you have a beautiful view over Stockholm.
