Photographer’s Note

This building in Uppsala is called Skytteanum after Johan Skytte, council of the realm and a leading politician in seventeenth century Sweden. Skytte in 1622 donated the Skyttean professorship of Eloquence and Government to the University of Uppsala. His house in Uppsala, the originally medieval building is still used by Department of Government. When I posted a picture of the other side of the building I was asked what there letters on the wall meant. The meaning of it is Herr Johan Skytte Friherre Riksråd Fru Maria Naef Till Groenseo, that is Mr Johan Skytte Baron Council of Realm Wife Maria Naef of Groenso. Groenso is a manor in an island in the Lake Maelaren at the distance of 30-40 kilometers from Uppsala. Obviously his wife was a noblelady.
