Photographer’s Note

This is a third photo of the Uppsala Botanical Garden. There are approximately 1,300 species grown and this garden is one of two botanical gardens in Uppsala, the Linneus Garden that is the oldest botanical garden in Sweden, and the Botantical garden. In the 18th century the Linneus Garden needed more space and therefore, Peter Thunberg, successor of Carl Linneus, persuaded King Gustaf III to donate the Uppsala castle garden to be used as a new botanical garden. The king donated money to an orangery building, the Linneanum. It was inaugurated in 1807, in memory of the birth of Linneus one hundred years earlier. The oragenery is still used for its original purpose. Part of the garden is a baroque garden. There is also a tropical greenhouse here.
