Lights of Stockholm (with the Gamla Stan in the foreground)

Gamla stan is the old town of Stockholm. It consists mainly of the island Stadsholmen, but also covers Riddarholmen and Helgeandsholmen. Gamla stan is also referred to as the "town between the bridges".
The town dates back to the 13th century, and consists of medieval alleyways, cobbled streets, and archaic architecture. North German architecture has had a strong influence in the Old Town's construction.
Stortorget is the name of the scenic large square in the centre of Gamla Stan, which is surrounded by old merchant's houses including the Stockholm Stock Exchange Building. The square was the site of the Stockholm Bloodbath, where Swedish noblemen were massacred by the Danish King Christian II, on November 7, 1520. The following revolt and civil war led to the dissolution of the Kalmar Union and the subsequent election of King Gustav I of Sweden.

The Riddarholmskyrkan (on the right), or the Church of Riddarholmen, is the burial church of the Swedish monarchy. It is located on the island of Riddarholmen, close to the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden. The congregation was dissolved in 1807 and today the church is used only for burial and commemorative purposes. Swedish monarchs from Gustavus Adolphus to Gustav V are entombed here, as well as the earlier monarchs Magnus Ladulås and Karl Knutsson Bonde.
It is one of the oldest buildings in Stockholm, parts of it dating to the late 13th century, when it was built as a greyfriars monastery. After the Protestant Reformation, the monastery was closed and the building turned into a Protestant church. A spire was added during the reign of John III, but burned down following a stroke of lightning on July 28, 1835 after which it was replaced with the following one.

Stockholm

Stockholm is the capital and the largest city of Sweden. It is the site of the national Swedish government, the Riksdag (parliament), and the official residence of the Swedish monarch as well as the prime minister. Since 1980, the monarch has resided at Drottningholm Palace outside of Stockholm and uses the Royal Palace of Stockholm as his workplace and official residence. As of 2009, the Stockholm metropolitan area is home to approximately 22% of Sweden's population, and contributes 28% of Sweden's gross domestic product. Stockholm is the most populous city in Sweden with a population of 829,417 in the municipality (2009), 1.25 million in the urban area (2005), and 2 million in the metropolitan area (2009).
Founded circa 1250, Stockholm has long been one of Sweden's cultural, media, political, and economic centres. Its strategic location on 14 islands on the south-central east coast of Sweden at the mouth of Lake Mälaren, by the Stockholm archipelago, has been historically important. Stockholm has been nominated by GaWC as a global city, with a ranking of Alpha-.In The 2008 Global Cities Index, Stockholm ranked 24th in the world, 10th in Europe, and first in Scandinavia. Stockholm is known for its beauty, its buildings and architecture, its abundant open water and many parks. It is sometimes referred to as Venice of the North. Beautiful blue moment shot from a good high viewpoint. Those reflections are very nice showing different tones of illumination. And clouds on the sky are really worth this spacious framing.

Such a delightful night shot remarkably done, really have captured so well with fantastic details. Lovely clarity achieved, and so wonderfully exposed with some good highlights in the shadow areas in nice illumination from the surroundings. Awesome water reflection and its colors together finishes it off perfectly with excellent touch of lovely sheen and sky. A glorious scene, well captured.
