Photographer’s Note

This picture shows a 19th century farmhouse at the open air museum of Skansen in Stockholm, which is great fun for kids...and amateur photographers:)

I like this type of red paint, which - as far as I've seen - is still regularly used on houses in the Swedish countryside.

Skansen is an open air museum and zoo located on the island Djurgården in Stockholm, Sweden. It was founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius (1833-1901) to show the way of life in the different parts of Sweden before the industrial era.

Skansen attracts more than 1.3 million visitors each year. The many exhibits over the 75 acre (300,000 m²) site include a full replica of an average 19th-century town, in which craftsmen in traditional dress such as tanners, shoemakers, silversmiths, bakers and glass-blowers demonstrate their skills in period surroundings.

The Ekshärad Farmhouse comes from the Swedish Mountains in Värmland. It appears as it was in the second half of the 19th century when it was occupied by one Per Larsson, a farmer and local magistrate, with his family.

This was the first two storey house to be built in the parish. It looked like a modest manor-house and had various outhouses. Until 1889 it also served as the local courthouse. The courtroom is on the ground floor on the left of the hall.
