Photographer’s Note

At the end of the tunnel is a box of sand in case the road is slippery going uphill in the winter or in this case more likely in case the tunnel gets filled with melting water that freezes in the night. Very slippery indeed.

In the winter our landscapes and cityscapes are decorated with a vast number of sandboxes filled with coarse sand and a showel. The sand is to fight the slippery surface of frosen water and thereby keeping our older citizens out of hospitals and making trucks go uphill etc. So many things don´t work on ice.

The picture is taken from an pedestrian underpass. This type of "pipe bridge" is becoming more and more common as the manufacturers are getting better and better tools to make a corrugated steel with a coarse profile in a thick plate. That way this bridge type is replacing small concrete bridges that are much more expensive to build.

Natural colors, the world is B&W this time of the year.
