Alltid nära Photo

Photographer’s Note

"Alltid nära" means "allways close" in Swedish and is a slogan for fast food chain. While being quite bored waiting for a train in Sundsvall I played around with this sign. Somehow I like the effect of warm red in contrast to the wet winter dusk. Learn about the world, hmm, maybe that the Swedish winter is still full of Volvo 240?

The composition split in two parts works nicely, I very much like the opposition between the graphical sign and the abandoned look of the left part.

I find the little piece of sky a bit distracting, and the thick black frame works better for the right than for the left..
I'll try to do something in a ws if you don't mind.

great composition, i like the contrast between two halves of the image, very well seen, excellent capture
and you really use this small minolta camera??

Great fun Ebbe! The graphism is fine, and I love the contrast of the bold sign against the muted winter scene in the background. We've been having cold foggy days in Marin County and I appreciate the importance of bringing a bit a warmth to one's life, however one is able to achieve that. This red is certainly warm. Fine work.

With regard to the Volvo, for years they were marketed in this country as the most durable of cars. Now they've become much sportier and durability has disappeared from their commercials. I guess there are plenty of 240s around, still mushing through the snow. They may look like a box with wheels, but they keep on running!

I like this picture very much. The contrast between the foreground "the fierce red surface with the text" and the background "the car, what is he doing there?" Great eye!!

another excellent shot Ebbe. I am going through your portfolio with delight and find some "gems" in it.. This is superb once again..
the strong compositon and the constrast between the colors is what makes this one great..
