2 am near Kiruna Photo

Photographer’s Note

Taken around 2 am early July at a lake just north of Kiruna. The sheds are used to shelter the boats from the harsh winters. The typical red color they are painted in comes from the Falun coppermines.

Kiruna is situated north of the polar circle which means there is 24 hours of sunlight for several weeks around the longest day of the year. In the winter it's the other way around though.

If they only could have found something against all those mosquitos, it took about 15 minutes to kill most of them in the car before moving on.

Hallo Harko,
Mijn oog viel onmiddelijk op Kiruna, maar ik herken dit meer niet. Ik herinner me nog onze eerste nacht in Lapland. We werden om 2 uur wakker van stemmen en dachten eerst dat het al middag was.

Your beautiful POV and soft colors remind me when I was in Rovaniemi (just in front of Kiruna, but in Finland...), on artic circle. I have lived the same thing : day during night. That's a quiet time that we cannot forget... Thank you for this !

Excellent POv for this good shot.Good composition with the diagonal row of these wooden cabins.They give a good depth to the image and contrast well with the dark sea and trees in the background.A good shot with great evening light.

Hi Harko,
very well captured and nicely framed shot of a great diagonal perspective. The colours are nice and well saturated and the summer nightlight is fantastic. I like the calm and peaceful atmosphere, here. I see that you also had troubles with the aggressive "arctic" mosquitos.

Wonderful colors in a peaceful site. I like DOF and POV and .... the title.... for me 2am should means night... It's really amasing this difference. Andrea
