Photographer’s Note

In the late light of an evening in June the cows decided to go home to get milked. Everyday life in the life of a cow, not very decisive but then they are just cows, huh?

The location is Verkön, an island in the lake Storsjön in the middle of of Sweden. Verkön has one farm and one hotel and no road connection to the mainland. For tourists there are regular connections with for instance the old steamer Thomé.

The hotel is an old large villa called "the castle". It was built around 1900 by someone with a lot of money. It was left to decay for a while but has now been restored into a hotel with a very high class restaurant. People actual pay the price of helicopter transport to get a meal here when they are to hurried on their vacation to go by boat.

During the years when the castle had lower status it was owned by the sailboat club in Östersund. During these years summer camps to teach kids how to sail small boats where held here and even I was here one week in '71 for such a camp. Quite an experience to come back and find the placed so different.

But Verkön is still the same pearl of Storjön.
