The oldest city seal of Kalmar is from somewhere between 1255-1267, making it the oldest known city seal in Scandinavia.
In the 12th century the first foundations of a castle were established, with the construction of a round tower for guard and lookout. The tower was continuously expanded on in 13th century, and as such, Queen Margaret called an assembly there between head of states of Sweden and Norway, and on July 13, 1397, the Kalmar Union treaty was signed, which would last until 1523. Kalmar's strategical location, near the Danish border (which was close as Terra Scania belonged to Denmark), and its harbour and marchancy, also led it into several feuds. There are two events independently labelled Kalmar bloodbath: The first in 1505, when King John of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden let execute the mayor and city council of Kalmar; the second in 1599 by command of Duke Charles, later to became King Charles IX of Sweden.
In the 1540s, first King Gustav Vasa, and later his sons Erik XIV of Sweden and John III of Sweden would organize a rebuilding of the castle into the magnificent Renaissance castle it is today.

Hello george,
Nice picture of this castlme and interresting note. I like your composition with theses flowers and people in foreground. Every thing is perfect (except the sky perhaps).
Best regards
JMarc

Hello George,
A very tranquil atmosphere, a feeling mostly created by the people on the benches in front!
The castle is well depicted and nicely framed, the side lighting gives a special afternoon mood...
Well framed in a pleasant composition with good lines and a fine feeling of depth!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Bonjour George,
le ciel est bien moins joli que sur ta photo précédente. Par contre le reste des couleurs est éclatant et je dirais que c'est ce qui me plait le plus sur cette photo.
Les lumières et les couleurs d'un soleil qui commence à être bas sur l'horizon.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hi George, although the sky is white (this happens if you shoot against the sun...:), I like this shot, because everything else here is great really, the framing of the castle is very good, the composition is so balanced with several layers of interest as the eye is approaching the castle. Nice saturated colours too and the shot has a pleasant atmosphere of summer relaxation.

Cheers
Alexander

The composition is superbly balanced here George.
I like the inclusion of the couple on the bench, the fact that they are looking at the same scene as us works very well for drawing the eye into the scene.
It was a great idea to use the branches of the tree to frame the castle; it's worked really well and is a good distfaction from the rather featureless sky.
The sky is the only weak part of this great shot. I like how the red flowers break up the foreground and they work well with the trees to make a good natural frame for the scene.
Really good work.
Cheers,
Ben

Hi George,
I am observing a distinct style in your photos these days with excellent use of human elements to tell the story of both the place and the people. This is another good one with perfect use of the people and the trees. Well Done!

my overall evaluation -> :-))

Hi George,
Good composition and lights here. I like how you have added branches and flowers in the foreground, human elements here are a plus, the castle in the background is sharp and clear.
Well done
Thanks for sharing
Best regards
Vivek

Hello George, This splendid castle is located in a genuine bosky bower, the trees which surround it are splendid, I find that the colors of the photograph marry very well, Your composition frames very well the building of trees and this before coloured plan is super photogenic, which highlights it well, sincerely

Hello George.
I'll be frank, you have turned a bad photo into a good photo by composition alone, a true sign of greatnes I might add. the sky sets out to defeat you, yet you use the trees, the colors and the people against it. Well done. The horizontal lines building up to the castle are magnificant. Your foreground of red flowers, fantastic.
Well done.
Best wishes,
Chris

Great photo, I hope the weather will be fine at the end of augustm because at this time I will visit Kalmar ;-)

Hi George,
Nice view of this castle.
A very pleasent compostion with lots of elements that grab our attention.
I like the light here.
and the red flowers bring a nice colourful to the compostion.
regards
Teresa

Hi George 0 despite the white sky the rest of the image is awash with wonderful bright colours, I really like the framing with the trees.

very nice one Here George
the point of view is good, the looking through is very nice and the details are good, I think the light is the winner in this good shot, well done.

Hey George,
Everyone before has noticed both the crude blank void that has replaced the sky, and the incredible full of color scenery that copes perfectly with it. This is what I may call contrast. It breaks something in our aesthetic, sensitive hearts. But, not in a sterile manner. It gives us, say a huge blank to fill with the colors your wonderful compo is suggesting to our imaginations.
Really it reminds me of those take-your-pencil games for kids, and I like it, despite the harshness of the assault on my eyes.
4 this I thank U :D Regards, F' (out of...!)

Light, the line of flowers, the people resting on the benches, your well chosen framing, a nice total, George !
