The oldest city seal of Kalmar is from somewhere between 1255-1267, making it the oldest known city seal in Scandinavia.
In the 12th century the first foundations of a castle were established, with the construction of a round tower for guard and lookout. The tower was continuously expanded on in 13th century, and as such, Queen Margaret called an assembly there between head of states of Sweden and Norway, and on July 13, 1397, the Kalmar Union treaty was signed, which would last until 1523. Kalmar's strategical location, near the Danish border (which was close as Terra Scania belonged to Denmark), and its harbour and marchancy, also led it into several feuds. There are two events independently labelled Kalmar bloodbath: The first in 1505, when King John of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden let execute the mayor and city council of Kalmar; the second in 1599 by command of Duke Charles, later to became King Charles IX of Sweden.
In the 1540s, first King Gustav Vasa, and later his sons Erik XIV of Sweden and John III of Sweden would organize a rebuilding of the castle into the magnificent Renaissance castle it is today.

Hi George,
Superbly composed, great PoV. Great picture of a historic, fine architecture building with a girl sitting on a bench at FG. Excellent shot.

Ben Lakitan

Hi George,
There are two issues here : the composition and the quality. As far as composition goes, this one is just perfect. Frem the girl sitting in the FG and enjoying the view to the overhanging branches at the top, it couldn't have been any better. Qualitywise there is just one point of concern, something I am sure you too must have noticed - its the burnt out sky around the castle. From the deep shadows I can make out that light was perhaps too strong and you had some sidelight to take care of. Well done in the end.
With Greetings from India

Hi George this is a masterpiece in terms of composition: foreground subject, framing with branches, human gives scale...all create a tridimensional feel. And what detail !
Very good. Maybe a polarizer would have darkened the sky, but that is a personal opinion/afterthought because I really like it. Your note is very interesting. Best regards, Robert

Hi, George
Composition is really great, it's a pity about the sky, the position of the sun wasn't that great, but I like an overall tonality, colors, idea and an architecture details, and, of course, a human presence in the foreground. Good job indeed

Grettings George.
great composition with the foreground subject and the immense castle in the backgroud. I also like the layered land leading your eyes up to the castle.
It is a very bright day, but your composition is very well done,
Chris
:) be back, out.

Hi George,
In spite of harsh daylight you manage to capture the castle with good textures and fine details!
Colours are good too, ane the image is nicely composed with good balance between elements...
Pleasant composition, nicely framed... Nice touch with the leaves in top!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello George,
I like especially the composition with the woman and the bench. It is fantastic perspective. I suppose that the light was very strong so colours are a little pale. But generally it is nice photo.
Best regards,
Andrzej

Very fine shot. The composition is great. I like that red head and all these sharp shadows mixed with bright stripes - they gives interestinch touch of graphism to the photo. I really do like it. Greetings T.

Although its a bit of a shame that the sky and the roof of the castle is so over-exposed, I think your composition is outstanding here George.
The woman on the bench fills the foreground well, and I like the fact that she is looking at the same scene as us.
It was a good decision to try and fill as much of the sky as possible with the tree branches, especially as it is a good distraction from the burnt out sky. It also frames the castle nicely.
Good work.
Cheers,
Ben

This is great perspective George...not only did you show the magnificient castle, but your inclusion of the lady sitting in the frame is excellent & provides an extra dimension. One small issue is the burnt out sky just above the castle, but I guess you got harsh light at that time, evident from the strong shadows. But the compo. & the mood is excellent.

Angshu
